Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
I think you'll find that my 5 yr old grandson had a simpler answer to the drive train Neil, when asked how a car works his reply was "You turn the key, magic happens and you go!"

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

That is true for about 95% of the population!!mickthemaverick wrote: 02 Oct 2024, 10:22 I think you'll find that my 5 yr old grandson had a simpler answer to the drive train Neil, when asked how a car works his reply was "You turn the key, magic happens and you go!"![]()

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
@ NewcastleFalcon: you are right they are over complicated now by far, all the self monitoring software they run these days makes them a nightmare to own right out, over the past decade though ICE had gone the same way with limp mode becoming a regular thing for many some times for something as simple as a bit of dirt in the fuel line, causes a slight stutter as it passes through the injector and light on, limp into nearest dealership and £150 lighter for diag we tell you we have cleared the fault, drive and see, sorry monitor the vehicle for the next week, if the fault reoccurs bring it back in (drive it and see)..
I so wonder if a lot of the problems with the I.Ds is they can do vehicle software updates over air whilst charging, if you have a shaky WIFI signal or it does not extend far enough then it wont update correctly, and starts playing up lights on for various things, the 1st thing we do now is update them again through our ODIS machines and force an installation it needed and it does cure a lot of the issues, they have moisture sensors inside the battery case, the battery case is sealed at factory level by a robot and as we have seen here they are not best seal, allowing a small amount of water in, which becomes a problem, they also try to make them to cheaply one of the issues we had with a recall was an insulation mat inside was left out, through a specific chassis range, another was the same insulation mat was to thin, which again meant battery out, the cell balancing software is twitchy and causes problems, the tech is there but not robust enough yet and over complicated.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
@RichardW: 3 biggest customer problems for us.
1) City Braking - customers always booking car in for city breaking fault as they had to "slam on" coming down the slip road or on the duel carriageway, it only works up to 5mph
2) Auto hold - booking car in for handbrake fault as it rolls away sometime with the hand brake on. you then realise the customer is using the auto hold button instead of the hand brake button.
3) Start/stop - moaning that 1st thing on a winters morning the start stop does not work at the end of their road, booked in for diag? It wont, vehicle has to be at a certain temperature 1st!
Funniest one, a lady trying to open the boot of a VW UP, bent over with her face up to the boot lock and saying OPEN! (she had booked it in for this) and was demonstrating the fault to the service advisor, rather bemused by this he asked her what she was doing? it seems she had read on a forum that the new VW UP comes with facial recognition and voice control to open the boot and doors and neither worked on hers, awkward conversation.
Rather like the chap taking ownership of his new E Tron Q8 yelling start at it outside the showroom, when asked what he was doing, he said he was told it had voice control, only for the media and Nav system, starting it is rather old school he was told, you press a button.

@RichardW: 3 biggest customer problems for us:
I forgot one so make it 4
Directional lamps. when you start to turn wheel say left the left fog lamp comes on, the customer books in for diag as they think either bulb has gone already or there is a wiring fault as it keep going on and off, same with the other side.
@NewcastleFalcon I see you have a lovely prima grey I.D, nice (not) bit of useless information our body shop has a lot of prima grey vehicles in at the moment in different shades, most with rear end damage, so we either have somebody who does not like the colour and rams them OR it seems most of these rear enders were done towards dusk so are people not seeing this colour against the road surfaces in certain light as we change over to winter driving. Never the less NOT my favourite colour at all in any vehicle.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Parked pretty much side by side, and showing the same profile in my photo's, one is an ID4 and the Other an ID3.
Quite like the look of the ID7, although only managed this photo before it drove off. That was greyish too!

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
I.D7 is a nice looker to be fair we have a black one as a courtesy car it looks good in black, I also like the BUZZ as well, we use to have a really nice looking I.D4 GTX in a metallic blue one of the sales lads had for a while, not surprisingly it sold really quickly.

Stacks of them. Inadvertently walked past the local secondary school at chucking out time and there were scads of them, all over the roads and pavements as school run parents seem wont to do. Even a 74 among them.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
First spot in the wild of this, and a first for the thread. Yes there is a general aversion to SUV's present in the FCF population, but many of the buying public like them, and yes this did catch my attention, more for its novelty value and its rarity as a spot, but nice colour, and probably one of the first on the roads of the UK. It wasn't supposed to be able to be ordered before late 2024. Bit more about it on the "Whats available" thread should you wish to find out a bit more.

Famous of course for Lexie Limitless driving it around the world, but only the very curious will follow that one up with a bit of internet searching.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Yes, and the aversion is very strong right here and seeing horrid things like that one just increases it. It looks hideous. A proper gargoyle...NewcastleFalcon wrote: 03 Oct 2024, 22:38 First spot in the wild of this, and a first for the thread. Looks like it was designed by a drunken committee over the 'phone. And by a group of people who really could not care less...
I can only assume that to save a little on the payroll, all the skilled automotive stylists have been made redundant and now the job is done by the local primary school. Maybe not as the average primary school child could do a better job.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Harsh indeed, and from a Picasso owner which could be seen as the forerunner of the SUV! However I agree SUV's are not pretty and being EV doesn't endear it to me either!

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Nothing odd or outstanding about it, doesn't even stand out in the car park, not too huge that it overhangs a carpark space, just ordinary for 2024. And its a nice colour. Indeed that is a pretty nice rear.

The front bit of a small range rover look there, but the grill entrenched in 100 years of motoring and part of the "look of a car" for many has gone, and you get a bit of a flat-face
It's just a car, and I'm sure the owner will be very pleased with it, and it will fit their needs well.
