Our late GS has a GSA sender unit that does not work. New replacements are hard to come by and expensive.
I wonder, does anyone know if the GS saloon fuel tank is the same as the GSA one? If so, I wonder if a GS sender would fit?
So has anyone got a working sender unit that they would be prepared to part with?
We have been able to make our sender unit work when not in the car but it is contained in a plastic tube (I think later ones were metal as pictured below). This tube appears to have swollen from being in petrol for years and it requires a lot of force to get the thing back in. This inevitably distorts the tube and then the unit fails.
The two units look like this:

Any help much appreciated

Re: Fuel tank sender Part 2
If the parts books are to believed, from 7/79 onwards the parts numbers are consistent for the fuel tank (95 492 863) and the sender gasket (75 440 486). It might be that they're even the same part but the number was updated.
Also, if it's a late GS, why wouldn't a GS sender work?

Re: Fuel tank sender Part 2
Apparently not. I'm told that the tank and sender are different between early and late GS.
Late GS tank and sender are the same as GSA.
I think they continued to sell the G Special (our car) after the introduction of the GSA.
I have learnt that the same thing happens with drive shafts. The GSA shafts and late GS are thicker than the early GS ones, presumably to accommodate the huge increase in power offered by the GSA!
