Big thanks to Marc, it worked. Found identical vehicle at a car dealer close to me and managed to back up their working set on a flash pen as Mark explained in this forum. To be honest, I didn’t expect to work as the process took less than a second, but it did and now my system is back where it was before I started messing, which is no satellites, 0 , zilch. By the way if somebody needs this back up let me know, I will send it. Took me months to find identical car and people willing to share as all of them were scared to allow me to do it. All started to go wrong when updating to 2.86 so be aware, it is real mess and back it up before that to save a lot of trouble for yourselves.

Pleased you got it sorted in the end.

2.86 is a major update and it can affect some units more than others - it all depends on the vehicle and the the existing firmware installed as to how successful this is.

The secret is to make sure you all take a backup of your user settings now, regardless, whilst the system is in good order. Then you will always have a copy of these if your unit starts to go bad, or after a firmware update.

Also, as soon as you have updated to a new firmware and it has been successful with everything working, take another copy and keep it safe to be sure.

That is exactly what I did, lesson learned. But as I said I am back to where I was minus old firmware as updated now to 2.86. Any ideas on the satellites problem. Aerial seems ok as I bought cheap one to test and is still the same?

Ok, so I've written about this multiple times, so forgive me if I'm repeating myself again here but regarding the satellite issue:

It will be one of several things - Faulty Tuner in the Head Unit, faulty / loose GPS aerial connector or cable, or the Aerial.
  1. Best thing to try and pinpoint the culprit is to get a cheap GPS aerial with fakra connector from ebay or somewhere like that for £10, and then plug this into the rear of the head unit in place of the GPS aerial.
  2. Place the aerial on the dashboard and stick it down temporarily, then go for a drive (this won't work with the vehicle sitting still - you must drive the vehicle for at least 10 minutes to give the system a chance to lock onto the satellites, then see if you are getting any visible after this time.
  3. If you are getting satellites appearing, you know it's an issue with either the aerial cable of the aerial itself (water corrosion via the roof seal for example).
  4. If you are still not getting any satellites showing, then it may be RT6 GPS module / tuner - but you should update your maps first just to be sure there's not an issue with the mapping software.

I’ve tried all the above, only maps (2022 I think) were downloaded from a user with keys but result is all the same. I haven’t tried a new sd card , do you think there could be a sd card issue?

No, won't be that, but the only other thing I can think of is that a dealer calibration may need to be applied. They normally have to do this to fix a Bluetooth Echo - depending on the previous firmware that you upgraded from (as it may not be necessary on later versions before the 2.86 update), but a calibration may be needed for the satellites issue too.

May be worth a check - but again the problem is in getting a dealer that is clued up on these things. I know that on some other forums once the calibration was applied it fixed the satellite issue, so you may have to bite the bullet and pay them diagnostic time to do this - but make sure they know how to do it first of all!

If they know what to do it shouldn't be more than half an hour or less.

No, these are separate system files within the unit as far as I'm aware. But once they are done with a later firmware, they should remain.

Navigation maps are not saved either if that's what you mean. Only the User data files and vehicle configuration as far as I'm aware.

Ok Marc, could you summarise my explanation to the front desk/service technician at Peugeot dealership? How should I explain to them what exactly I want them to do in a concise form. I am asking for that because when I talked to them over the phone I was told that it would take up to a couple of hours which with their rates is absolutely ridiculous for me to do that, plus the outcome is uncertain but the payment has to be done anyway. The one other thing I need to ask is - what is the volume of PAT/Eolys fluid in the additive tank, here is my vin for

Unfortunately from the dealer's perspective, they will have to run a diagnostic on the system first - that is of course chargeable and usually in the region of £120 for up to an hour.

So the outcome would be that they can't find a fault code, and then would have to troubleshoot the obvious things like the aerial and all that - hence the time.

Before all that, try and do a BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure as this can reset the unit. In the guide however, leave the battery off for 15 minutes at least to ensure the head unit resets. This doesn't cost anything and is worth a try.

Been there, done that at least a dozen times since I got the car, following your procedure. No luck.

if you obtain the mirascript user data backup file from another identical car, it doesn't work (at least for me)
