This is just an open query, and perhaps not enough to justify a thread but there may be opinions ..
Has anyone managed to reduce the noise level of an HDi, either by noise-absorbing material in the engine bay, or some kind of mod? Are some parts of the drivetrain particularly noise generating and amenable to silencing?
If just the idling noise is reducible, that would be a start..
HDi noise..

I would start with the engine mounts. These can make a big difference in the noise department. I recently changed mine after two years of service and a lot of noise disappeared. I thought there was something wrong with the engine type of noise.

Is that an expensive garage job?

I can't tell, since I get the parts from a friend who buys parts at a discounted price and we change them at his garage for free.
