German protectionism come back to bite them in the bum, they can't make the batteries inside the EU so the percentage of EU cars can't meet their own rules, better expect the goal posts to be moved until they catch up with the battery making.

During my run this morning I see these (what I presume are) EV charging points beginning to appear on lamp posts in a residential street in Paggers...

So the first couple of his sentences in the video tell it all he's going to come up with the negatives.

Re: Electric Vehicles-Infrastructure
What's going on generally with EVs then -
GM in the states have issues...
Insurance Premiums for EVs.... especially after a knock - with the vehicle potentially being written off rather than being put back on the road as currently no way to determine if the battery cells have been internally compromised.
Froom the Telegraph:
China...
It's all rather concerning - then factor in future 'pay per feature' subscriptions on EVs and a bike is becoming more appealing!

Froom the Telegraph:
Insuring a car has never been more expensive.
The average car insurance premium has hit a new record of £924 a year, having shot up by £338 (58pc) in just 12 months, according to comparison website Confused.com.
Yet while average premiums for petrol and diesel vehicles are 29pc higher than September last year, owners of electric vehicles (EV) face shelling out a hefty 72pc more.
Some motor insurers have stopped offering EV coverage altogether.
Aviva removed insurance products for the Tesla Model Y earlier this year without explanation, before restoring them several months later.
John Lewis’s insurance underwriter, Covea, paused new insurance policies and renewals for all electric cars last month as it analysed risks and costs.
It comes amid concern about the dangers of EV fires, which are harder to put out than fires in petrol and diesel models. Damaged EV batteries pose a risk of “thermal runaway” where energy stored in the battery releases rapidly, creating temperatures of up to 400C.
UK motor insurers have been hit hard by a sharp rise in the cost of second-hand vehicles, replacement parts and labour, eroding profit margins and pushing up premiums.
£5,346 a year to insure my car’
David Pilsworth, 29, was shocked when the price to insure his Peugeot e-2008 shot up from around £62 a month to £445.50 a month when his AA policy came up for renewal in July.
The huge rise meant he faced paying £5,346 a year to drive his car, even before factoring in other costs.
The quotes ranged from £900 to £3,000’
Two months before Steve Lamb’s £360-a-year insurance came up for renewal, he started shopping around on comparison sites to check average prices.
“The quotes I got ranged from over £900 to £3,000,” he said. “It’s daylight robbery.”
Mr Lamb, 57, who drives a Tesla Model 3 Performance, managed to secure a £700 premium with his current insurer, still nearly double what he had been paying despite having a clean driving licence and a maximum no claims bonus.

It would be interesting to know how many of the FCF contributors have watched the inaugural video of 'Stop burning stuff'

Re: Electric Vehicles-Infrastructure
I used to like Quentin Wilson when he was on Top Gear many moons ago Gibbo, but he's become extremely annoying since he's become an EV evangelist.
I've no issue with EVs specifically, but they must be safe and affordable to buy, run and insure. None of these is the case at present and until that time I'm sticking with my ICE for as long as I can. The new E-C3 is certainly going the right way and hopefully this will spark further price drops and developments. I'm still not convinced the quotes of global EV car sales are genuine or realistic given the graveyards piled full of them they can't sell, the buy backs, the false new registrations, those running them as company cars - who would likely not be able to afford them to buy personally. The life of these too makes them worthless with the cost of replacement batteries after 8-10 years. It all needs an overhaul and reality check.

Yes, very well said Marc... Re: Electric Vehicles-Infrastructure
Unfortunately the internet is full of armageddon like stories. Electrification is a disruption. There will be winners and losers in the transition, and some will fight to retain the status quo. I shed no tears for the demise of the exhaust pipe and so far none of the Armageddon stories have applied to my Nissan Leaf.
It's a pointless game responding to the latest "news" or youtube rant, and the plain fact is that the negative view is as equally evangelical as the positive view, but disproportionately appears in the traditional media, and the "socials". Reason...people like to take up the extremes of position on it and the videos and in print stories always spark a flood of responses from the combatting parties who may just notice an ad as they warrior on their keypad for their cause.
I personally follow "Bargain Basement Electric" on our very own FCF. No ranting, first hand experience if you want it, and a dash of what motoring is all about...motoring for pleasure! with a few original pics. To be honest irrelevant that the car has a battery and an electric motor.
Yes its never going to get a million views granted
Perhaps a new thread needs starting to mop up members views, as opposed to filling threads such as EV's whats available and EV Infrastructure which really should be reserved for whats on the market, and infrastructure developments. Personally I get a little tired of the youtube ranters and their ridiculous exasperated or angry faces to accompany their over-exaggerated click bait titles.
I'll even give you the best title for it
"Electrification, positive and negative"

Good plan Neil

I expect it'll go through phases at times. At least three...
And no doubt it'll generate a lot of interest and comment... I trust it'll be light on Youtubes and heavy on short, snappy text...
I'm keen to learn and follow as I still hope my next car will be electric...

Re: Electric Vehicles-Infrastructure
I watched it in full when it was first posted. However for me it is just another well organised campaign designed to get the point over. I see no evidence that the people involved or the subjects discussed are any more true or false than anything else I see. Personally I make up my own mind by drawing on my education and training as an electric, electronic and radio engineer and I know what I think but I simply have better things to do than try to convince anyone else that my ideas are correct!! Life is short and getting shorter every day so I would much rather harbour my own thoughts and enjoy myself on trips and tours, watch sport and have the odd pint or three when I feel like it!!Gibbo2286 wrote: 30 Oct 2023, 10:47 It would be interesting to know how many of the FCF contributors have watched the inaugural video of 'Stop burning stuff'

Re: Electric Vehicles-Infrastructure
Of one thing we are sure about is the danger of the thermal fires on these things - couple that with the MacMaster who couldn't open the door of his Porsche EV from the inside on his drive and could not get out without the assistance of his wife with an emergency key.... say no more if he was isolated somewhere.
