Oh dear our friend in the Porsche's 12 V Battery was dead after he had been away on holiday and the car wouldn't work. All the evidence you need. Cars won't work with a discharged 12V battery...What a discovery! A pathetic rant. Call the AA they would have popped the bonnet up, recharged or replaced or the 12V battery.

Same thing happened once to me...swapped the 12V battery over myself...the tale in full without a "Ranty Video with Armageddon Title" or my angry face reproduced, from our very own pages of the French Car Forum....Bargain Basement Electric Thread.

No response from the car when clicking the key fob, no reassuring flash of the indicators, and not the reassuring clicks and clunks from the central locking. Must have left the car open managed to get in and press the on-off switch no chimes, no bright dash display , and a faded message saying key not detected, and a logo of the key fob and the battery.

Reaction 1. Battery in key fob must be kaput. Replaced battery still no, key not detected.
Reaction 2. The 12 volt battery must be flat, the car isnt moving an inch tonight. Noticed the light switch was in the on position but I did think it was impossible to leave the lights on with the car switched off even if it was unlocked.

The 12V battery is 6 years old, up to now been fine if a little low voltage wise compared to what you would expect on an ICE car, and a reputation for not being very well maintained by the 12v charging systems on the Leaf.

Anyway the camping out was saved by a borrow and return arrangement with another in the family fleet, and a sort it out in the daylight task for this morning.

Armed with multimeter and a spare 12V battery, and the jump leads, and sockets and spanners I arrived back at the leaf this morning. I had purposely popped the bonnet the previous night and left it open just in case the car had decided to lock itself overnight. Put the multi meter on the battery 4.5 volts. That wasnt going to work anything.

But what did I do...in an automatic sort of reaction after checking I shut the bonnet Yes and the doors had locked themselves, and there wasnt enough poke in the keyfob or the car to re-open them. After the expletive cry, I was gently reminded by calmer voice..."there's a key in the fob that should open the door".

and indeed there is, and thank goodness it was there, and it did open the door.



Replaced the 12V Battery, no choice of following the Nissan Official Procedure could neither switch the car on or off, just a simple Negative first, positive second on removal, and positive first negative last on reconnection. The dire warnings about resetting this that and the other didn't materialise. Radio stations, windows, charging settings etc all as before.

The MG incident is obviously concerning but isolated, and will be investigated and sorted but what joy for the ranter.

I like it...but

Can't imagine it finding much of a market, if it attracts any bidders they will probably not have been up to Leeds to kick the tyres and see if it actually works. It has a small lithium iron phosphate battery which has now become in vastly improved and larger capacities the go-to battery for the current crop of EV's, less energy dense than the cobalt using battery chemistries, but far safer, cheaper, and long lasting. The MIA should be a generation or two simpler than the current crop, and may just be in the fixer-upper project category for someone who wants a play.

I quite like it too, not sure I could cope with 13 bhp Vs 800 kg (half the power of a 2cv and a good chunk heavier!) But think little light efficient EVs should be the answer rather than silly big SUV versions that seem to be the norm.

The information on it is virtually zero, without making a direct contact with the auction house.

Hardly a sales pitch at all , and from the title on the video being June 2023, looks like it has been through the auction before.

I think l the registration oddity can be explained, it may never have been registered, bought and used as an onsite vehicle and the only number attributed to it is a fleet number on the site's fleet.
I bought a Mondeo at auction that came from a South Wales oil refinery, very low miles and blotted around with crude oil, never been offsite, never registered, fetched little money in the auction but cleaned up like new, one company owned, registered with an appropriate number for its age it sold quickly for a very good price.

This and and the vehicle not being washed (and I mean simply washed, not detailed) put me off any vehicle, however cheap.
