Particle filter additive too low

Unread post by richarda »

Hi There
I have a 2011 Grand C4 Picasso 1.6 HDI VTR+
RPO:12481FV

I got this message: "Particle filter additive too low: Repair Needed"

From reading around and looking under the car, I understand there is a plastic box with a pouch of liquid that needs replacing.
Could anyone help me with the following:-

How do I find out which pouch I need?
Where is a reliable place to get the pouch from?
Is it an easy-ish job to do on the driveway with axle stands? (anyone know of any good instructions somewhere?)
BTW: I have the Lexia diagnostic tool.

As always many thanks for your help.

You'll need to provide your VIN so I can determine which system you have first (pouch or reservoir). Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff.

But it will be Powerflex additive based on the RPO you have supplied. Available from dealer or online from various places, with and without filling kits and in different quantities (for filling reservoir only). You will have to reset the additive counter correctly afterwards.

Ok so you have a reservoir-based system. Top up min. of 1 litre which is the recommended.

Many Thanks Marc.

Does anyone know of any good descriptions of the procedure to top up this system?

Thanks again

There's plenty of vids on you tube, but basically....

Run the rear up on ramps
Remove the plastic cover
Remove the tank (you have to do the electrical connector after freeing the tank, as not enough room to get at the clip with the tank in.)
Undo the filling hose and fill the tank
Refit

Tell it you have refilled the tank, probably need to go in both the engine and additive ECU, and then clear the fault from the engine ECU.

Many Thanks Richard
Have since found some on youtube, not specifically C4 GP but I get the idea, seems reasonably straight forward and your description confirms that.
Thanks for tips about the cable length and 2x ECUs...

one last question, does anyone know if its OK drive for a few 10s of miles before fixing this, as I need to get work for a few days... round trip 8 miles.
(will I get a limp mode or refusal to start at some point.)

Thanks again

Yes should be fine. It is just telling you that there is insufficient additive remaining to cover the mileage between the time the warning started to come on and your next due service interval (that you get notified of when you switch the vehicle ignition on).

Thanks for all the help on this I have got some more "one last questions" - sorry....
I have been into the Lexia tool and founds 2 pumps / reservoirs related to DPF additive and inadvertently reset both of them.
I have successfully got rid of the warning message fault code too.
Plan to refill on the weekend, or at least get the tank off to confirm what to put in it.. (powerflex hopefully)
(However the Lexia is describing an additive bag tank.)
I attach a picture of the before and after resetting the volumes on both pump/tanks . (DPF additive repalcement on Lexia v0.02.jpg)
DPF additive repalcement on Lexia v0.02.jpg
Does anyone know why there are 2 pumps/tanks described here?
Have I reset 2 different tanks? If so what is the other one? (do I need to top up something else now I have told it I refilled it !!!)

As always so grateful for all the help here...

No idea, I always use Diagbox not Lexia, it's probably the same thing, or one of them is the integrated part in the Engine ECU. Anyway, as long as the light has gone off, it's all good!!

I've heard of this on several other models - probably specific to this engine, where there are 2 places that the reset needs to be done - in the engine ECU and the pack repair option and only after it has been reset in both places does it accept it.

Thanks a lot for the speedy replies. I take my chances as a duplicate setting... (whacky :-) )
Would you use the cheaper fluid off ebay / Amazon vs the more expensive Citroen PSA stuff found on eurocarcare
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294123279204 (~£27 per litre)
https://www.eurocarcare.net/oil-and-flu ... itres.html (£200 for 3 litres)
(TBH the label of Citroen PSA canister looks like it could be fake on the eurocarcare website.)

Make sure you use Powerflex! Additives are specific to particular systems and build dates. Some cannot be mixed.

Hi There
Managed to get the cover off this morning, bar code sticker shows RES ADD FAP PF2 VOL 1.07 L.
The tank cover shows TI Automotive - that matches up with one of the "pompes" on the Lexia tool, indeed the 1.07L one and not the 2L MGI one.
I also managed to decouple the filler hose without removing the tank.
So will refill with PowerFlex fluid as suggested.
I add some pictures for your pleasure...and for anyone else with this problem...

Again always grateful for the help on this.
Richard
