Citroen C4 Grand Picasso Key not detected

Unread post by Shaks »

Hi guys, I have a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso flair 2017. I bought this car in July this year, everything was working fine until 3 weeks ago. I cannot lock the doors with my key fobs anymore, the vehicle does not start without placing the key in the key holder. If I try to start the vehicle without the key in the holder I receive a message saying ‘Key not detected’. Before exiting the car I press the door lock button which locks rear and front passenger doors, I then manually lock the door with the master key. I have replaced the batteries in both fobs to rule that out. The AA ran a diagnostic but couldn’t find a fault connected to the issue I have but the following did come up -

Patrol found the following fault code/s:System : Instrumentation 2 - 1EB / Instrument cluster 7.0U1FA0 - Touch screen. Error Message : LVDS communication error.Suspect fuel injector staying open a little, no faults and didn't do it when reading live data. Have advised to put injector cleaner in and try againEngine Oil Level Ok. Coolant Level Ok.

I was getting a slight judder intermittently but put it down to the poor road surface in my local area. As per advice from the AA I used Forte injector cleaner which did the trick.

I was told not to worry about the other fault codes.

I called Citroen today and was advised that I would have to book the car in for diagnostics which will cost £144 non refundable regardless if a fault is found or not.

Thought I’d try my luck on here before parting with what seems a lot of money. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance

You need to reinitialise the fobs after replacing the batteries: Read the relevant part of the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

Hi Marc,

Thank you for your response, I will attempt to reinitialise, I’m over confident with things like this but your step by step guild is easy to understand and doesn’t seem taxing. I much add that the batteries in both fobs were good I only replaced with new ones due to a troubleshooting video on YouTube.

You never know is might just fix the glitch.

Thanks again much appreciated.

Nothing to loose and a cheap fix if this resolves the issues.

Replacing the batteries can often result in the need for reinitialisation of the fobs. That's why the emergency key pad is there which will read the chip directly in the fob and allow the car to be started when the fob has not been reinitialised.
