Had a nice lunch at a pub I have visited before as have other FCFers but today's puzzle is where is it?

While you are mulling that over take note of the innovative idea which I have not come across before, very useful for diners who have left their specs at home!!:

Is it one of those who wrote Handel’s Messiah questions or a trick QI question to illicit the obvious but possibly wrong answer. Without resorting to the reading glasses is the answer not in plain site ie

The King Charles at Chesham? Aka the Lazy Pig

Indeed it was Neil :-D I hadn't noticed the Chesham or I would have masked it but interesting that they changed the name about a month ago. Everything else is the same apart from a more diverse menu but the Pizzas we like are still available so I'm sure we will have another FCF meet there in the not too distant future!!

I went to a very lovely and attractive cafe with a number of my cycling friends yesterday but given this thread is for pubs and hotels only I'll not continue here...

We need related topic for cafes ;)

Either start one or shove it on "Nice Places to Stop Off At" or just shove it on here. As thread starter, doesn't bother me at all! I used to have the ability along with everyone else to edit the first post on the thread to change the title.
Seems a bit of a trivial thing to bother the mods to add in Cafe to the title...just assume its there" See I have amended the title on this post, but to change the lot requires mod intervention.

So good I said it twice! Lets here about the Cafe then Jim. The Northumberland Gazette, one of the country's oldest local newspapers recently did a piece on the top Cafe's in North Northumberland assembled from Google Reviews.
Some real anomalies, completely disagreed with the order and some shouldn't even have been on there! The top one certainly didn't get the Falcon seal of approval, and undoubtedly the best was down the list. No substitute for your own opinion :-D

Like to try new places as well as back to the regular favourites. Bywell Coffee Barn at South Acomb Farm is a recently discovered gem. You would have to know its there, you would never drive past it and notice it on any sort of passing journey.

On our trip to Beamish next month we plan to go to Beamish on the morning of 16th and then head north afterwards to see some northumbrian railways and find a suitable lunch venue. Perhaps you could help us out there Neil, although Jim is actually planning that trip so I may be talking out of turn! :-D

:-D Worth saying twice too Neil!

Here it is... The Deli at Castle Ashby in Northamptonshire 8-) A bit pricey but worth it for top quality food - their sausage rolls are heavenly :-D

It doesn't look much from the outside...

But inside it's lovely... Spot me if you can... Every character present in the photo is a member of our club cycle ride there yesterday...

Highly recommended but be aware it's almost always full of bloody cyclists

Happy to Help! As you fall out of Beamish there The Classic Car Barn, with a bit of a courtesy call I'm sure they would welcome you for a look around. Bit of an Aston Martin service/repair/renovation specialist among other classic marques. Has featured on Bangers and Cash once or twice. Right next to it is a pub called The Black Horse, part of the same site.

South Causey Farm is also Adjacent
https://southcausey.co.uk/

The Causey Arch is a nice Half mile walk from the car park off the Stanley-Sunniside Road nearby but the Tanfield Railway alongside only runs on Sundays and Bank Holidays so no trains on a Wednesday. The little cafe at the car park is only open Thursday to Sunday.

Thanks Neil, I'll let Jim mull that over. I was wondering if we might get to visit the Drift Cafe that we missed out on on the Stroll, maybe for afternoon tea? :-D

Should be a possibility Mick, but don't let that possibly restrict the blank sheet of your planning, happy to meet up at any convenient point for yourselves. If Jim wants to recreate a bit of "chariots of fire" running along the beach in white shorts and singlet, there are few better places than Druridge Bay just across from the Drift!
