You have more pictures than me Jim! The miners cottages came from Hetton-Le-Hole which is where my mother in law came from. I can't remember how many children there were in the cottage but I don't know where they put them all.

Did you go on the old railway with the repro engines, Rocket, Puffing Billy and Steam Elephant - the only engine that's running at the moment. They were built by the museum some years ago at a cost of £300,000 each, would probably be a million or more now. The Steam Elephant was built using only a painting and the engineers knowledge of Victorian engineering.

I wonder if you went down the drift mine?

Can't guarantee the waterproofness of the paint Mick although the blue lettering does have a layer of spray varnish on!

Nice to see them in situ!

I'll give them a coat of clear varnish which should look after the paint! :-D

Some sort of oil treatment will probably last longer Mick, or even diesel, that's as near as you can get to creosote now. Waxoil would be OK once the stickiness has gone off. I did my 'social distancing' picnic bench with oil and although its gone darker there is no sign of rot. The wife might like the smell of course.

Thanks for the thought Peter, but too late I'm afraid! :-D I have a can of yacht varnish on the shelf for any outdoor preservation job that comes up and the bricks have now been duly coated!! It works exceptionally well on all the surfaces I have ever tried, although I'll admit it is an expensive option, but you get what you pay for!! :-D
