1.4 HDi - C3 - 2005 - no engine power

Unread post by kurnt29 »

I am dealing with a bit problematic C3. It is 1.4 HDi 2005 car after FL and app. 250kkm.
Problem being - engine has no power. It can barely move on leveled ground in 1st gear, no way of getting it uphill.
Revs up to 4000 rpm but has no power.

When cold it will not run without additional gas pedal pressing (keeping it over 1000 rpm). After app. 1min it idles without problem.
If it stalls when cold, diagnostic scan (Autocom 2020) shows 3 fault codes:
- P1683
- U2000
- U2218

When warm/hot it will idle with no problem. If before mentioned codes are cleared then there will be no check engine light and no fault codes present.
1.) No check engine light.
2.) Diagnostic scan (Autocom 2020) returns "no fault codes".
3.) No apparent air/fuel leaks.
4.) No DPF.
5.) New EGR as old one was burned, but I am unable to calibrate it for some reason (Autocom stops function immediately).
6.) Some of aquired diagnostic data:
- atmospheric pressure: 2215 mBar, does not change
- air mass flow: 250-300mg/s, changes only little with rpm (700-3000 rpm)
- boost pressure: 500-950 mBar, depending on rpm (when stationary), close to desired value
- injectors correction factors: under 0,1 for all 4 injectors
- intake air temp.: 4°C (10-20 degrees less than actual outside temp.)
- intake manifold air temp.: 24°C (approx. right)
- EGR value is changing

New MAF
Due to air mass flow changing so little over the rpm range my first suspection was MAF sensor. It was changed with new (Pierburg) and the air mass flow is staying approx. the same (220-330mg/s).
Only difference being that now car idles normally also when cold.
I have also checked MAF wiring and it seems to be OK:
- 12V present
- GND present
- 5V signal present (decreases when running to about 4,5V)

The saga continues..
When going over other values, I also noticed high reading for atmospheric pressure however I am unable to define where is this value read from. Any ideas?
No matter what sensor I unplug, this value stays the same (2215 mBar).

Any suggestions what to look at next?

Im not familiar with the 1.4 HDI, but start with the easy stuff, fuel filter, air filter, contaminated fuel, blocked exhaust, broken throttle cable, air in the fuel. If you can find a wiring diagram it is also worth checking all the ground wires that attach to the body.

Agree with above , check the fuel breather pipe too they get condensation , water , this causes underpower issues , check the throttle cable engine bay end , not sure what the set up is like but if anything runs through any holes and the cable is held with r clips these break then the cable is free & the throttle won't hardly work at all , binding brakes can be a pain too, as above check earth points as well.
