Top Quality GSA fails to sell.

Unread post by NewcastleFalcon »

Not enough interest in this excellent condition GSA for it to reach its reserve at Mathewsons April sale. Hammer price around just over £6,000, short of the £7,500-£9,000 estimate, currently recorded as not sold.

Not many people want an "old Citroen"........ old Citroens of all types really struggle to shift themselves, even high quality ones like this there really is an ever diminishing stock of people with even the slightest interest in them.

There really is only (or ever has been) one "cool" old Citroen in the mind of the general public....

The GS GS/A series were ahead of their time technically. Simpler in hydraulics to the DS, the ride was equal in every sense, but in a mid sized salloon/estate. The estate 'break' was absolutely cavernous within, with the centre bumper section lifting with the tail-gate, they were load and big dog swallowers.

But, while the shape was comparatively new, every manufacturer followed on making the GS/A look 'ordinary'. With a flat four engine that would terrify most home mechanics of the day (take a look under the bonnet of modern cars - if you can get them open without machine code!), and with fuel consumption little more than 30mpg, the Brits were shy buyers.

Why don't they sell today? I think it's that 'ordinary' visual tag. A shame, because to get behind the wheel and drive for several hundred miles would change all that. Steering responsive to the point of sensuous. The road holding leech like. The brakes sensational. The comfort may be surpassed by the armchairs of the DS, but it's the look - it was and is - no DS.

Is mine for sale? NO it is not!

I still say that my GS was the best car I have owned.

I have added a bit to today's day in the spotlight for the GSA here on one of the FCF's newest threads...
