I've not come across those either, I used Wipac spark plugs, 3/6d in Woolworths, blue they were.

My memory doesn't work much at all but as all the other spark plugs were 5/- it makes it easier. The ones I bought were blue.

I also remember buying Glasso Paint with a picture of a parrot on the tin, it was 10/- for a pint, thinners was 25/- a gallon.

The metal shelving in my garage is held together with Isopon and P41 according to which bit got repaired when!!

Doe's seem a bit obscure, seems they only made it into the '50s, I think the shop was called 'Glasso'. It was at the top of Masons Hill, Bromley.

The "parrot" trade mark survives to this day Peter and in 2015 celebrated its 90th Birthday, and is now encompassed into Glasurit brand, owned by BASF.

Thanks for all that info. pleased the parrot has survived. I can remember my grandfather painting his house, in the days when paint contained lead and lasted about five times longer than it does now. Practically all houses were painted dark green or brown, I always used to think that was from choice but apparently there weren't many other colours generally available in the '40s. My mother broke the mould and painted our bungalow bright red and cream in the '50s, upset a few people in the road I think.

We had gas lights in the street too. A man came round every year and gave them a coat of silver paint, it must have been at least a quarter of an inch thick when I last remember it. He also came round every week and wound up the timer that turned it on and off.

I think we had them well into the '50's only ours only had one mantle, there was one outside the house next door. We came across a few people that still had gas lighting in their homes and battery radios. One of my first jobs when I started work was charging the accumulators. Vey nice link that, very nostalgic.

That brings me to another subject, milk floats. Our Coop milkman who was called Stan had a cart that he had to pull by hand when I first remember him, and we lived on a fairly steep hill. After some years they provided him with an electric one, just before he retired they gave him a sit in and drive one.

Bread was also delivered in electric vans but 'Grooms Bakery' still had a horse and cart and there was quite an outcry when they got rid of it.
