Now if that had been a Sunbeam Tiger...

One of my customers had a Sunbeam Tiger and to be frank it was horrible.

Certainly contemporary road tests said it could be a bit of a handful! IIRC it was brought out to compete with the Austin Healey 3000 as the Sunbeam Alpine just didn't cut the mustard. Didn't Caroll Shelby have something to do with the gestation of the Tiger?

Just sold at ACA for £4,500 hammer price. If I wasn't so currently content with the Leaf and the Micra, that would have been a nice buy/use/sell again car for a bit of summer enjoymentNewcastleFalcon wrote: 25 Mar 2023, 19:49There is a video now.NewcastleFalcon wrote: 23 Mar 2023, 08:17 TR7...I prefer some of their other colours but its a striking shape, usually not mistaken for any other, (yesterdays rusty wrecks thread post excepted), and sometimes even the benefit of a tartan interiorAnglia Car Auctions 1st/2nd April Est £4,000-£5,000.

I have to say, my local lot WB and Sons, from the point of view of potential buyers do the most thorough walk round videos and start-ups in the classics auction world. This video in comparison is awful, a nice car, decent story, way off being effectively presented and the vendor could have spent a bit of time cleaning up that engine bay and the boot.

Also at the auction another convertible I like, and in my view the nicest one of the SAAB stable. Others have rather a bulky rear end.
Unloved as ever at the auctions, £1,100 hammer price £1,260 inc Buyers Premium.

Re: Open-Top motoring....
Back in the 90s when I was working for a vehicle finance company I was able to source 20+ Saabs for various clients. I developed a good relationship with a dealer in SW London who was able to supply the cars at the best rates I could find. After topping the 20 cars inside a year they offered to lend me a brand new 900 Convertible for a week which I jumped at. I immediately arranged a tour of Scotland's lowlands staying at a rented cottage in the middle of nowhere as a base. The plan was to drive up to the cottage and then tour around in a series of 100 mile circular routes from the base.
All went well until I picked up my girlfriend of the time and we realised that you cannot fit two cases in the boot with the top down!! As a result a significant part of my reason for taking the car was ruined, as we had to travel up and down with the hood up on lovely sunny June days!!

Maybe these have more boot space definitely more bulky round the rear.

Today's spot a familiar face to me, makes a spring return after last being spotted in Autumn 2020. While not to everyone's taste, and even a faint possibility of being to no-ones taste, the brown paintwork is "memorable" as is the rather gorgeous shape and its diminutive proportions compared to current cars, and a bit of good old-fashioned chrome in the right places.

Here's a chance to tick most of the boxes, convertible, yellow, classic, fun, desirable and without breaking the bank - what more can you ask for?

Re: Open-Top motoring....
Always interesting to see what turns up at the WB and Sons Sale. Good family firm and very thorough in their walk round videos. If I ever dip into the classic car market I would have no qualms buying from them, and not just for the enormous convenience advantage. Looks a good value car and like they said in the vid 1/4 of the price of the genuine article, and probably better! Don't think I will be bidding on it but I may go and kick the tyres.

A pretty rare, but fairly well known model for today's open top car. I had an uncle who used to run one and I had a few rides in it.

This car is well worth doing a bit of youtubing around.
Not to say its not likely to be VFM at its guide price, but the model's reputation and story doesn't make confidence building reading.

MGB esque front TR6 back, nice enough!I watched this vid on the Jensen-Healey. Bit more well-informed now.

One lives in the same road as me... Got a bit of a soft spot for them, reputation notwithstanding!
