Seat belt alarm, indicator sound not working

Unread post by fixmycar »

I have a 2007 C4, some time ago, the sound for both indicator "tick" and seat belt alarms went intermittent... and finally, died.

I have connected Diagbox v9.8, hoping it might reveal where the problem was, but it reported nothing relevant. I don't think it is a fuse... unless there is an intermittent/bad connection, but I see no blown fuses. Also - a blown fuse would not result in intermittent sound.

My thinking is it might be a loose connection on the speaker itself... or on the other end at the BSI unit.

Any suggestions on how to proceed?
Cheers,
T.

One possibility is the switch control module under the steering wheel. The BSI sends the signals for the audible alerts for the indicators via the CAN network to this module. These can become faulty over time.

The tick sound & beeps come from the little speaker located inside the coms unit (indicator & wiper stalk assembly). Its not meant to be a seperately replaceable part but im sure if you are handy with a soldering iron it wouldn’t be to hard. I can’t imagine this has anyone to do with fuses as this would affect everything else that goes through the comms unit.

Thanks.. I have taken a look in that area, but could not identify anything that resembled a speaker. Maybe I need to try harder ;-) Or open up a friends C4 and locate the source of the sound on a working unit.
At least I now know roughly where the speaker is... that helps!

It may not be immediately obvious as the speaker is an integral part of the unit.
I know this pic is not from a C4 as they have the fixed centre steering wheel type but it was the best pic i could find showing the speaker just to give yo an idea. You may have to remove the unit to see it

Ive never seen anywhere you can disable the indicator sounds so i doubt you can ‘re enable’ it.
First this i would try is a BSI reset by disconnecting the battery, failing that the speaker in the comms unit may have gone down
