Electric Cars:what's available?

I notice that Hub Nut mentions a lot of issues which I just won't accept but he does. Therein lies the crux of the matter. We both see the same things - he is willing to accept them, I am not.
With the state of the train services as they are, I am not willing to use them for my long journeys and have been forced back into using the car, which I hate on the M6 and in the Midlands. We, as in me and LOML, will not use an EV for long journeys until the range and charging options are vastly improved. Locally, it would probably be ideal but we don't live in an ideal world.

I would be like Ian in accepting some or all of the less than delightful features, as I do with any car including the current one, it is all a compromise.
But won't be entertaining an EV as I can't charge one from home and they are far too expensive anyway.

I could charge at home but the expense of buying, maintaining and running one sort of puts me off. The big issue is range and instant availability day or night.

By the way. I believe that the Fiat 500 uses the same Bosch drive motor as our Hybrid4. So, I do look into these things and I like to think I am not overly biased in my assessments.

I don't think you are biased any more than I am Dave, the fact is that the current charging system requiring lengthy stops in journeys of any distance combined with the initial outlay simply doesn't make today's offerings viable for our lifestyles. I am still considering a conversion for the MX3 but that is only a toy really so charging issues are far less relevant. Part of the idea is the learning curve involved to complete the conversion myself, with help from friends of course, so the end product would not be the soul purpose of the exercise. However the more weeks that go by the more my "project" enthusiasm drains out of me so very much a wait and see thing!!

I view EVs much like I view modern Rolls Royces or exotic sports cars - I'm sure they're lovely cars, but they don't suit my needs.

As far as I know that is the only colour at the moment so not surprising. No idea about it being a demonstrator, I'll let you phone them and ask them!!

Blimey, that's about a 140 mile round trip for me - good job I'm not driving an EV as I might have to plan a charging stop en route
