Not many around here and I have only seen kids going to school or playing after school, they all appear to be quite sensible and don't take them on the roads but use the foot/cycle path through the park.
Rarely get into Sunderland/Newcastle/Durham where I imagine it is much worse.

I am her adopted uncle. She stayed with us 18 years ago while she finished her studies and we have known her mum and dad since before she was born. To describe her as a determined person is an understatement! She is truly a very good triathlete and like most sportswomen struggles to raise the funds to compete, train and travel. As a dedicated duathlete (a triathlete who can't swim!) Dormouse, I have the greatest of respect and admiration for anyone who competes in triathlon... A very tough sport that takes dedication, resilience, massive fitness - both mental and physical - and an iron will... I'll be delighted to help support her... Her name is familiar to me...

She is a dedicated athlete and if you ever met her, you would remember her for her self effacing character.
She likes that I take prolonged videos of her competing as it lets her study her technique. Most people just take the obvious photo opportunity shots, I kind of capture the warts and all bits as I take huge amounts of videos along with snapshots.
She does compete all over the UK (and abroad) and I am currently trying to find a way of acquiring her a small van to use as a bike van cum camper on a non existent budget. Alongside my daughter, who Sandra grew up with, she is undoubtedly determined - they both are! Yet they are both caring, lovely people to know and speak to. Until it is time to perform, then they strain every bit of energy they possess to get forward.

Sandra has just let me know that the guy who did her website gave up a while ago, so if anyone can point her in the direction of someone else to maintain her website she would be grateful. You can still find her on Instagram and Facebook in the meantime, apparently, as I am on neither, dinosaur that I am.

I don't know if it helps but I do know three different people with their own websites all maintained by Godaddy and it costs £8.00 a month for the standard package. Other options are available depending on the needs of the customer but maybe worth an approach!

It is more about the time to keep it up to date. She is Head of Dept at her school, so between work, training, competing and dog walking she doesn't have a lot of spare time.

And keeping a website up to date is time-consuming if you do it with due diligence - as I know she would and would expect - and cuts into essential and critical training time...

Fingers crossed she finds someone who will be reliable and properly dedicated to the task...

What a hoot! It is icy and they could see what happened to the first bikes. Just confirms to me that cyclists are just like motorists. Just like the clip of all the cars sliding into each other. If it is that bad why are you on the road in the first place. The brighter variety avoid such situations.

Every winter I put all our cars on winter tyres - wife, son and daughter's included. I also made my family go out and practice sliding about on snow, ice and mud the minute they passed their tests. I also cajoled them into entering Autotests and the like to hone their skills.
To this day I don't worry that they can't handle slippery conditions unlike my son in law, who scares the bejusus out of me.

Just confirms to me that cyclists are just like motorists.

Not all by any means. I and virtually all of my cycling friends won't even consider going out on our bikes if there is any risk of ice at all. End of. It's just too dangerous... One of the biggest risks that a lot of casual cyclists don't appear to appreciate is ice and frost hanging around for a long while in shady patches even when any winter sun may have melted the vast majority. Not such a risk for cars but bikes often get caught out and several I know have suffered accidents as a result...

That little vid of the cyclist falling has been doing the rounds and likely staged for effect.

I also only run off-road in icy conditions wearing appropriate footwear. A lot of parkruns that have paved courses have cancelled their events this Saturday. I'll be running one of our off-road parkrun courses in the morning to check if it might be safe enough to go ahead...

The fact the camera was static at exactly the right spot and that so many bikes all did the same run, it was obviously staged. However, the mentality of the people filming it is that they want lots of clicks - cue any amount of reality programmes. What it does reinforce to me is that no matter what you put "normal" people into, they only get lots of attention if what they do is stupid. Which is no different to Rufford Ford videos, or any amount of similar idiotic clips - cycling, diving, ford crossing, you name it. Sensible people don't deliberately do silly things which is why you don't see them.
