Yes, it's a 1954 incarnation of that model.

The boot badge appears to be TR 250. That would suggest it is a USA model of 1967/68 vintage that has been re-imported. It may even have been rebuilt with RHD parts but the picture is a bit fuzzy.NewcastleFalcon wrote: 03 Oct 2022, 17:31Wonder if Giorgio Moroder is going to get a turn on the PE Juke Box as a result of his involvement.mickthemaverick wrote: 01 Oct 2022, 10:27 As I said earlier, here is a link to the details:

My classic spot today is this. Yes, reg plate quite obvious, but all it tells us is Triumph Unknown Year of Manufacture 1967. It's got a 2500 cc engine though, and it's a sports car![]()

It sold at auction for £31k back in 2020.
Imported from the US in 2013 and converted to RHD.

Confusing! The car has twin SU not Stromberg carbs.

Re: I-Spy Classic Cars/Bikes-What have you spotted?
Excellent spotting, the sales details here confirm that

Spend £43,000 sell for £31,000, and only do 908 miles in itOriginal Sales Details
https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/sa0 ... n=1&pp=100
The car was converted to right-hand drive, the chassis reunited with the restored bodywork and the car was treated to a £7,500 respray. The rare original Surrey Top was reconditioned and painted and the interior was totally transformed with MX5 seats trimmed in two-tone leather, a new set of door cards, rear covers and carpets, reconditioned instruments in a Walnut dash and much more. The engine was completely rebuilt and fitted with SU carbs, the gearbox and overdrive were reconditioned and a new clutch fitted. As with any total restoration, it's the little things like clips and brackets and small chrome parts that take the time to source and fit but the TR was eventually finished. Our vendor believes his costs were in excess of £43,000 and it certainly shows. Since it was finished, according to the smart new white speedometer, the car has covered just 908 miles.

When I started to clear out my garage stock I put some Stromberg diaphragms on Ebay, a guy from Australia bought them for his aeroplane, he told me in chat that he was 93 and still flying and maintaining his own plane.

Re: I-Spy Classic Cars/Bikes-What have you spotted?
I found a Triumph forum last night where the owner said the car had 76,000 miles, so the 908 miles figure is a bit suspect (unless that's what it's done since the rebuild...but that's still misleading)NewcastleFalcon wrote: 26 Oct 2022, 10:40 Spend £43,000 sell for £31,000, and only do 908 miles in it, it's an expensive hobby not a business!

The shape of the Lancia Beta Coupe has always been a favourite of mine. This one is up in an inaffordable bracket but always a joy to see one.

Re: I-Spy Classic Cars/Bikes-What have you spotted?
I had the Beta Spyder in exactly that colour but with the 1600cc engine. The thing I'll never forget about it is that it was 'fitted with cruise control' In actual fact the 'cruise control' was simply a hand lever pulling a cable which operated the throttle and you could lock the hand lever in any position to, in reality, give you throttle control but not actual 'cruise control' as the speed varied as you would expect with gravity for or against!!

Drove an early Volvo PV, a 444 iirc, from Borås to Stockholm* and back that was fitted with a manual 'cruise control'. Inadvertently filled it with diesel for the return trip. It took it in stride but created a very healthy smokescreen.
