It's easy enough to opt out of a TV Licence Marc, you just have to sign a declaration stating you will no under any circumstances use any equipment, including iPlayer, that's capable of receiving and viewing BBC TV content in real-time...

I did this for a couple of years until I was presented with a posh TV to help my accident recovery... The catch is that even if you never watch BBC TV and say, only watch ITV that won't wash as technically you have kit that can receive BBC TV so you must, by law, have a licence..

None of this applied to radio - that's been licence-free for decades...

So, the sooner the BBC moves to a subscription basis the better... I'd pay to ensure it remains free of adverts, especially on the radio...

All adverts - both on TV and commercial radio - should be committed to Room 101 forthwith...

I have to say that there should be a 'nearly' in there Jim just before the 'all ads'. Who could forget "Do you know the piano's on my foot Dad?" or maybe even "Keep going well......... etc". Occasionally the ad agencies do come up with a gem that tickles most of us and I wouldn't want to lose them so I'll add the 'nearly' on the input vortex of my 101! :-D

Yes, Jim, we did our licence not required declaration 2 years ago and have been blissfully licence free since then. I find it easier to officially notify them, so they have your declaration, rather than having a load of private company bullys calling on the doorstep trying to change your mind and get you to cough up. Also makes it easier to stop any future harassment when you have done everything by the book. I also have my satellite dish covered over and my cables bound up and tied away - in case of future changes and the abolition of the wretched licence.

Yes, indeed, on reflection Mick, I agree :) Those legendary Peugeot adverts, especially for the early 405 driving through the burning field whilst Berlin sang 'Take My Breath Away' and the Indian lad reshaping his Hindustan Ambassador into a 206 using a elephant were true masterpieces!

I went one stage further and had my aerials taken down and the coax ripped out... Never had it reinstalled and see no reason to. I don't know if my TV still works, it's unplugged and has not been used for at least a year...

My radios are hardly ever off...

There is rather a silly, but fun advert for Virgin Media. A Highland Cow is looking through the window while a man is watching motorcycle racing on his tablet. Later the same cow is seen riding on a motorcycle, with its long coat waving in the turbulence. Like I said, silly but funny (which is why I am glad not ALL adverts were put in Room 101!

Unboxing.
I haven't actually watched any but why would you want to watch anyone open a box of whatever it may be?

If it was a box of scorpions I'd rather watch someone else than open it myself!! :-D

🤣 Thing is Mick, it does have a very good side and it's great for keeping in touch with lots of my friends, family and my running and cycling communities. Also, my greatest love, parkrun, could not function without it. Shame is the whole thing can so easily spoilt by a few ranters who seem to have a total change of personality - for the worse - when sat behind a keyboard. I know a few who are lovely people in real life and total w=÷×=/rs when behind a keyboard...

Spot on there. Remember too that there are those who are w####rs online and in person! Facebook can be great but it can be the pits as well unfortunately, as are many areas in life.

I'm not a Twitter user and have no intention to be one as I don't quite understand how it works, what its purpose is or why it even exists... I did try using it once, a long time ago, and it seemed like a solution to a problem that didn't exist...

I have precisely the same feelings with Instagram but have to use it as one of my daughters uses it exclusively and thus I must... Until she demanded I did in order to keep tabs on me I didn't even know what it was.

Yes, I've reached that stage in life where the parent/child relationship is well on its way to being reversed...

I believe there may be other similar social media apps. available. I have no knowledge of them and intend that to remain so.
