Thanks

Earlier on this thread, it suggests that build numbers from 12166 on are Powerflex, with my build being 12491CJ, would this not suggest that I am OK with Powerflex?

That is correct for all models except C5(X7) & C6.
Some of the Previous reference on this thread is also out of date as some types are no longer supplied.
A C5(X7) from RP 12076 is EXTEND.
This also ties up with your green click fit connection, powerflex systems normally have a BLUE click fit connection.

Hi folks,

Apologies for re-opening an old thread, but having googled and found this thread and forum, I thought it best to post here first.

I'm a rather frustrated C4GP (61 plate) owner.

In 2020, I'd spent three years reporting DPF issues to the garages doing the servicing (Citroen Plymouth & then Nottingham), before getting to my local Citroen in Liverpool.
In 2020, I had paid one garage in Southport to replenish the Eolys fluid, but unfortunately the pump failed, so they pushed me back to Citroen to hopefully activate the part.

Citroen did some "diagnostics" and concluded the tank needed replaced, which they did for the sum of £820 (having already paid roughly £120 to fill the old tank), and refused to drain the old tank into new. So whole new tank, new fluid etc.
I shrugged it off, bit my tongue and paid the invoice.

Skip two years (26k miles), and I'm back to the tank being both empty and faulty again.

Garage refilled the tank (again, another £120) and pump failed.
The mechanic offered to replace the tank, but I was unable to at the time (distance), but did say the part doesn't need activation.

So I'm getting the car diag'd again. All the while, knowing I could replace the part for £250 myself, take precaution and fill the tank at my own cost.
But, my issue is, were the first garage right in saying it needs to activate?

Is there any major issues to me replacing this myself, apart from the fluid being carcinogenic? Do I need any software (I have Lexia, I think, on a laptop, but no cables etc).
I've noticed the car sometimes needs a specific fluid, which I would have to research prior to buying anything more, unless I can drain the old tank into the new?

Thank you,

Something doesn't add up with what you are saying. Firstly are you sure you are talking about the Eolys additive / pump / tank for the DPF? It sounds to me like you are referring to the Adblue / Adblue Tank which is part of the SCR system. The reason I ask is that an Eolys top up will last more than 26k miles! Normally this is only filled up every 60-75k miles or so and is usually a 3 litre pouch or reservoir.

I can't see how it is possible to have a new Eolys tank, plus additive fill and have to repeat this again....

The Eolys tank doesn't need 'activating', but it does need priming if new with a diagnostic tool. The engine ECU also needs to be told the tank has been topped up otherwise it won't know this (it is not physically measured). this is the only reason I can think of why the system is telling you that it thinks the tank is empty - in that the previous garage had not reset the additive counter after previously filling it up.

Perhaps if you can confirm (or not) some of what I've mentioned it might point us in the right direction.

To answer you other question, you must not use old fluid from one tank to top up a new tank, as it can contain impurities or fine elements that can bugger up the new tank, which is why officially they say never to do this.

Hi Marc,

Thank you for the reply.

It's 100% Eolys. Sorry to have caused any confusion.
It's been refilled twice by other mechanics, and the tank and fluid replaced by Citroen Liverpool.

They had the car yesterday, and "diagnosed" the tank has failed again, yet can't seem to address the misalignment of numbers. Unfortunately, as you point out, the numbers don't match up or lie.

The thing is, the tank was empty, and the second mechanic refilled it completely. Checked it for leaks, and refitted.
I have their diag output, and they've said they can replace the part, but won't be until November I'm back in Devon again. Plus it means I've then spent a lot more (again) on one part.
So I'm now pushing Citroen for Sales of Goods act, since it failed after their one year warranty.

I now have the car back, as I'm loath to let them do anything more right now.
Especially as they've flagged "other issues" now.

Unfortunately new parts only have a one year warranty like most things these days. I cannot see how you are using this amount of additive fluid, except for a leak or a faulty pump that is injecting in too much additive. Only a miniscule amount is injected, which is why 1.5 litres can last about 70k miles or longer.....

That's my argument with them.
This will be where the Sales of Goods will kick in, if it's a faulty pump, then that's not something I can control, and the part was not made for longevity, given it's expected life should be 5/6 years.

The issue too, is my car is a 61 plate Grand Picasso, with the old style dash in the centre, so the only warning I got was "DPF issue", so I would do burn-off's on the motorway. I even bought some DPF cleaner, and I'm usually using premium fuel to, as those first two years after repair, I was driving up and down the country for the two jobs I was working.

Very strange problem. Something certainly isn't right with that amount of changes. Problem is, garages plug it in and replace, they never think about what caused it to fail in the first place. There's something making it fail, that needs fixing first or it will continue to happen. IMO

TBH, I'm nearly done paying the finance (HP), I'll run it for a bit longer and then I'm going to have to move on.

The sad thing is, it's a great car when it doesn't have hiccups.

The mechanic I trust is 6hrs away, the other garage won't do certain bits as they don't want to pay for the Lexia software/training, so I'm stuck in the middle refusing to keep going back to the dealership.
I've previously had to involve the latter garage speaking to the dealership when the dealership accused them of damaging the tank. I just let them speak direct and watched the d/s representitive shrink in his seat, as the garage ripped into them (not nastily, professionally).

A lexia machine is cheap, if you enjoy the car that much it's worth investing in. Rather pay 150 quid for the lexia machine or 100 quid for a garage to plug it in everytime you have a fault..... fault 1, £100, fault 2 £100. That's £200 for info. £150 sounds better.

I know.
I'd much rather find a good garage though too, I can do most things myself, but having someone knowledgeable also helps.

Thankfully, I've all the workings out for this issue, so I can quote Sales of Goods etc, but considering I was meant to have a phone call today regarding the car, I was not surprised when I got nothing.

Afternoon Scroggle,

Upon investigating this new query- I can see it's directly associated with the same issue with a prior case number 03930087. The case ending in 087 was handled by myself and dodah on your behalf. dodah gave permission to discuss that case with yourself.

On date 26 October 2022, it was liaised to yourself that the vehicle is 97 months 2 weeks outside manufacturing warranty with mileage exceeding 60'000 by some 31'000 additional miles. It was therefore decided no coverage would be applicable or supported by the brand.

I have liaised further with dodah on this case. To my understanding there is a further dispute with the parts warranty. The part referred to in this case query has exceed the 12-month period and therefore would not be applicable for a parts warranty. I understand dodah has liaised this as well.

Unfortunately, we would be unable to assist in providing any coverage for this vehicle. If you have any additional queries or questions, please let me know how you would like to proceed going forward.

I have CC'ed dodah into this email to keep all communications open.
The person who I'm dealing with was far from professional and refused to actually listen to my complaint fully, just kept repeating the car is outside of any warranty (it was secondhand, the part was brand new), so I'm just fed up of this situation.
I'm unsure if I should get my mechanic to fit the part and do what's needed or continue fighting Ch!troen, given Sales of Goods Act covers the part, and the numbers still don't add up, but somehow this is being ignored.

Any advice folks?

You won't get anywhere with the Sale of Goods Act unfortunately, but thanks for sharing the content above.

The car is 8 years old, so well out of any warranty, and the Eolys DPF Additive tanks, to my knowledge, don't have any additional warranty. Any official parts fitted by Citroen will have a standard 12 month warranty, so from the sound of the letter, it seems the tank is outside of any warranty too.

I don't know what else to suggest apart from getting it properly diagnosed first and the work carried out which will have another 12 months warranty on the parts minimum, but some parts come with a 2 year warranty:

Thanks Marc,

I'll get the part installed and done elsewhere, I'm not throwing another £850 back at Citroen.

As soon as I can, my next car will not be French, and if I go diesel again, it'll be with ad-blue. But thank you to everyone for their help :D

Just be aware that the SCR system that uses Adblue to treat the NOx emissions is in addition to the DPF additive system that captures the particulate matter. So Blue HDis have both systems. This will be similar to most vehicle nowadays with some difference in the systems used.

And as for going electric - as I suspected years ago, that it's all going toes up with threatened national grid electricity blackouts, electric car charging is only going to add to the misery.
