The thread has been going a couple of years now starting October 1st 2020. A celebration and marking of the first day of the new month. which in time-honoured tradition will close for entries when "the bawdy hand of the dial is upon the prick of midnight" (to paraphrase Mercutio in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet)

Contributions invited...anything goes :!: :-D

Original Pictures taken this first day of November 2022. Calendar turnings, random indoor shots, random outdoor shots, relevant trivia for the new month.

Select a bit of first day music if you like relevant to the new month either in name, or as I sometimes do from past years official charts as of the week containing the first of the month. Official charts UK site here https://www.officialcharts.com/

Starter for ten
Original picture from a Northumberland Garden. Roses just about hanging on until November but got a fair drenching last night.

I stepped into the garden to be greeted by the results of last night's wind and rain:
Some clearing up needed!!
Some clearing up needed!!
Some clearing up is in order this morning!! Then I had a look round the garden to see how things are doing in Hertfordshire. No roses left on our two bushes but plenty of colour still to be found:
The Cactus Dahlia still going strong

Welcome November!! :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

The only picture I've taken today is of my tartan travel rugs... I've already posted it in the appropriate place ;)

Oh, I think your magnificent 55 year old Travel Rugs merit a bit of Tuesday November 1st 2022 repetition Jim!

On November 1st 1848, WH Smith opened their first Railway Bookstall at Euston Station

The First WH Smith Railway Bookstall

Had me diverted onto this tale of Euston Station, having not been able to find an image of the original bookstall :-D

Demolishing the Doric Arch was a barbaric act of cultural vandalism  And as for what they built as the new, improved Euston Station is beyond words suitable for use on this forum

Fuschia seems to be thriving in Northumberland on November 1st 2022. Not mine but definitely a gardener who know what they are doing in their small patch, full of vibrant colours in November :-D

Always nice to see Michelle Philips.
Leaves rather less so. I've just had to shift loads of them from the bit of garden out the front, about 8" deep.
They will probably blow back by morning.

I've just done the Official Charts random thing. Did a decades thing, and seeing as the regular heardlers purple patch appears to be the 1960's, random.org chose 1965. The chart for the week which included November 1st 1965 was selected. Rather than apply my own logic and bias to the selection, I just let Random.org select one of the top 50 singles. This was it, follows nicely on from California dreaming at number 43 in the hit parade...

Speaking of charts, I see that Taylor Swift has done rather well in filling the ten top places and having 13 of the first 15 places.
She seems nice enough but I personally don't care for her music.

Quite a remarkable achievement... I can honestly say I've not a clue who she is and can name none of her tunes... I expect I hear them on a very frequent basis on BBC 3CR but they've managed to make zero impression on me...

As do the great majority these days...
