Regards NeilJapanese brands collaborate on removable batteries for electric vans
The concept aims to overcome the challenges of recharging electric vans while they are in-use, using detachable and portable cartridge batteries.
Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation (CJPT) was launched by Toyota Motor Corporation with Isuzu Motors and Hino Motors in March 2021 and has since been joined by Suzuki and Daihatsu. It is working in partnership with Yamamoto Transport

Like the Gogoro system for mopeds:
I wonder how many of these you'd need to power a van though?

Re: Electric Vehicles:Batteries and recycling
Toyota pitch in, after years and years of resistance, maybe the game has changed
Toyota invests billions in battery production
Our very own "BritishVolt" meanwhile appear to be struggling to raise the wind to get things properly moving at the Blyth Site, announcing delays, and failing to get on with the job. Doesn't matter who's name is on the side of the factory just get on and get it into production. The competition won't be hanging around.

Liquid Metal Batteries get a mention here for battery storage energy systems.

Re: Electric Vehicles:Batteries and recycling
I doubt that they would be suitable in vehicles as they had to be fully cycled twice a day.

I see, Sorry Steve, saw the title and thought thats Batteries and Recycling fodder. I'll edit it out of this thread in due course after I've given it a decent watch! Re: Electric Vehicles:Batteries and recycling
I think they may have certain vehicular uses where continuous cycling is the name of the game. Eg fork lift trucks in warehousing, milk floats and similar local delivery vans which offer 24 hour service and possibly electric bikes charged overnight, ridden to work and charged again during work hours. Just a thought!!

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Two stories to speculatively link. Britishvolt's tardiness in getting things moving at Blyth, while the world looks to pour investment into Battery Factories.

Recycling.
The second use for EV Batteries when they drop below the capacity required for a traction battery in EV's is generally accepted to be in being repurposed into static storage.

Re: Electric Vehicles:Batteries and recycling
There appears to be no barriers to Chinese Battery Companies heading to Europe to build Factories.
SVOLT , an offshoot of Great Wall Motors, at number 10 on the World Automotive Battery Producers table are active in Germany, and have indeed, when PSA was PSA signed an order with them for battery cells totalling over 7GWh capacity.
SVOLT confirms 2nd battery cell plant in Germany The new Brandenburg site will have to make up for delayed production in Saarland.
Wonder in any of the "top 10" from the far-east will look towards the UK to establish a manufacturing base, or indeed buy out a development site already with planning permission, some clearance work and a fence around the site, but stalling in its pace of development.

Re: Electric Vehicles:Batteries and recycling
Watched the video Marc, and I would say it was a fair treatment of the subject over the full 10 Minutes, and a fair set of conclusions drawn. I think you probably picked out the worst graph, with the worst assumptions of the "greennesss" of current grids as to the breakevenness mileage on the emissions scale.GiveMeABreak wrote: 14 Sep 2022, 14:14 The phallacy of EV green credentials which I've long suspected according to a report by Autotrader:
I think we all come at these with our own points of view which are difficult to shift. I thought after reading your comment that it would be one of those videos which came at the subject from a biased point of view, but no it was fair.
Of course we see the click bait phenomena of an over dramatic picture and leading statement, but the video itself. yes covered most of the points well.

Re: Electric Vehicles:Batteries and recycling
I've no issue in general with EVs and it will no doubt be inevitable that we will end up with one they way things are going. I just can't deal with the green credential fanatics heaping praise on these as if they are totally carbon neutral. The graph I just used as it was the first one to highlight the break even part before it becomes carbon neutral compared to an ICE. Of course I accept some manufacturers will be better than others at this.
I have to admit I have been watching quite a few videos on the Citroen Ami quadricycle, which I'm sure is probably one of the greenest, considering there's hardly anything of it in the first place, but it does the job.
Also, I've never seen a dealership quite like this - looks as though it's inside a multi-storey car park on multiple levels. Space must be at a premium on the French Riviera!
