Re: 'Fingerpost' Direction Signs...
A little investigation may be necessary to determine what comes after the B on the bottom right road name sign!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Cheer's Mick, maybe you can pick out an Essex Brew for yourself although you make no secret of being partial to the Doom Bar!
The sign was not on geograph where there is a reasonable collection of such things, and people who take an interest in them so it was a paddle around the byways, and estates of Hertfordshire to find it, but satisfying when it appeared. The one I posted for Berwickshire being a case in point now replaced and lost, and a marvel of patina it was too.

Here's evidence that that signpost was there over 100 years ago and still doing its job today!!

The less travelled roads of East Lothian....Duns to Gifford
Very good for the old fingerpost direction signs.
This is where you reach the top, and the landscape flows down to the Firth of Forth across East Lothian. Super day, and a sea Haar down at the Coast.
and a nice one down in Gifford
Regards Neil

Re: 'Fingerpost' Direction Signs...
Cumbria is great for these things. This is a nice remote one.
but you have to go on a journey to find it....
Start here Climb out of Great Langdale up the steep winding single track road to the top near Blea Tarn Now then face the front this is where you are heading Time to consult your highway code and roadsigns book, and look you have arrived at the fingerpost sign and taken a pic of it for this thread!
Bon Voyage!
Regards Neil

Re: 'Fingerpost' Direction Signs...
A great adventure Neil Loving the pictures... Very moody and atmospheric... As a fan of finger posts I still think Somerset takes some beating in that respect
No need for any cyclists to consult the highway code when it comes to gradients. We are generally pretty knowledgeable as to the maximum our steeds and their human power units can reasonably ascend - or indeed, in the case of the one you photographed , descend... No way with rim brakes would I even consider descending a 1 in 4 hill although I'd be happy to ascend it... Not even with bike disc brakes would I be keen to go down it...
And most of us still do the mental conversion back to proper gradient units... Ones that make sense... 1 in 4 is far easier to appreciate than 25%... Maybe just my age...

Re: 'Fingerpost' Direction Signs...
It's been a gorgeous day down this way - a pure blue sky, hardly no wind and perceptible warmth
Only one thing to do - go for a long bike ride...
During a glorious 46 miles around the best bits of Beds and Bucks I bagged these two fine Bedfordshire fingerposts
I don't recall stopping to photograph them before so today I made amends...
And just a few yards up the road...

Re: 'Fingerpost' Direction Signs...
A couple of Northamptonshire ones from my bike ride today...
Another absolutely gorgeous day Spring is giving us an early preview
Quite utilitarian/plain and hard to get a good photo of it given the position of the sun and the modern sign in the vicinity...
And a much newer Northants one... Even more utilitarian and not easy to read in a car, especially as many are now buried in excess vegetation. There are the favoured rural signage all over the south of the county and few 'conventional' modern direction signs are to be found... I guess they're cheap.
Northants are well-known for being a bit thrifty (read tight/economical - choose your term ) when it comes to looking after their roads and infrastructure. It's always easy to tell when you've crossed the Northants/Bucks and Northants/Beds borders... Rural Northants roads are generally not as good as their Beds and Bucks neighbours by some degree...
And that's saying something.. Beds and Bucks roads are hardly billiard tables either
