Radio stuck on silence - C4 Grand Picasso 2010

Unread post by JoshhDaw »

Hi, new here!

So I have a C4 Grand Picasso 2010

Just had to have engine replaced and it was out of action for 7 weeks…

On return the radio is stuck in silence.

It has a mute button on the wheel and the radio itself and neither seem to do anything since the issue.

I’ve read something about a resistor needing to be swapped?

Other than trying that which seems a lot of faff have no ideas what to do!

Thanks in advance

It may help if you tell us which system you have. See viewforum.php?f=44

Is the display showing expected status? Does it display mute or icon?

Looks like the RD4 / 45

Radio displays

‘FMAST Silence’

The speaker with the cross through it

Underneath RDS, PRY both have strikes through them but RDTXT doesn’t

Also says MEM3 in top right corner but not sure if this is related.

Pressing and buttons does not change the display at all.

When they changed the engine, did they have to reprogram the BSI ? it might be that your multimedia controlls are deactivated. and needs to be reactivated in the software.

Hi, just rang them to check and they have said nothing has been done with the bsi.

Don’t know how believable that is as I’ve had no end of issues with them

Not sure this will help/work but worth a try and only cost 10-15 minutes of your time, carry out a full BSI reset, it sorts most annoying niggles.
This may help, thanks to Marc https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... hp?t=61997.

PS, a cup of tea is about the right amount of time between disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. ☕

What could also be worth doing (while you are dong a BSi reset) is cleaning the fuse blades. They do tarnish over time (especially the ones in the engine bay), which increases their electrical resistance. This may cause some issues (my C5 decided the suspension wasn't working; cleaning the fuse blades convinced her otherwise). I used an abrasive rubber to clean the blades, and squirted some proper contact cleaner into the fuse holders.

On an possible unrelated issue the A/C doesn’t seem to work either, they have regassed it however still not working.

(I am really not a car person so please bare with me)

During the engine replacement they said they had to send something off to be recalibrated with an injector.

A friend has pointed out that it may be something to do with the ECU and this may be the potential cause of these faults?

Really at a loss and don’t necessarily want to take it to Citroen for a £100 diagnostic
