U1318 86 code?

Does anyone know the significance of the 86 that follows this U1213 communication error code? I have another BSI communication code showing as U1318 86.

They have been around since about 2013 and the purpose of the later 7 digit codes is to save time troubleshooting by honing in on specific parts of the fault - so the last 2 digits can fine tune the cause a little more. Example digits 6 & 7:

23 = Signal stuck low
24 = Signal stuck high
27 = Single rate of change above threshold
29 = Performance signal invalid
2A = Stuck in range

Unfortunately I don't have the specific code suffix for you and this one is not listed for my car.

Back to that fault code, I do have at least one of them, but the fault can apply to one or more systems. In this case the only ones I have are similar but can have different effects on the downgrade modes - depending on which system is affected:

If the fault code is returned for the ABS / ESP system:

Fault Code:	U1213 81
Description of Fault:	ABS/ESP ECU (CAN): Data received invalid. Fault in communication on the CAN with the ABS/ESP ECU: Information not valid. The following warning lamps may be present: "SERVICE" warning lamp "Stop and Start" warning lamp
Conditions for Fault to clear:	The following conditions have to be met - After switching the ignition off and then back on - When driving
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:	Deactivation or switching off of the cruise control/speed limiter function Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine Request for immediate restarting of the internal combustion engine Deactivation of the gear change indicator Inhibiting of the anti-stall function in Stop and Start mode Inhibiting of the moving off assistance Inhibiting of the ancillary drive belt diagnostics Request for switching off if engine is in Stop mode Invalid engine torque information for the electric handbrake function Inhibiting of starting of the forced particle emission filter regeneration by after sales
Symptoms:	Deactivation or switching off of the cruise control/speed limiter function Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
Suspect Areas:	Configuration of the engine management ECU Electrical harness Connectors CAN Configuration of the anti-lock braking system ECU or dynamic stability control ECU

If the fault code is returned for Multi-function Video Camera:

Fault Code:	U1213 81
Description of Fault:	Communication with the ESP ECU: Signal received not valid or out of range. Fault in communication with the ESP ECU: Invalid value. The time for recording the fault code is 100 milliseconds
Conditions for Fault to clear:	Ignition on (For 30 seconds)
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:	Deactivation of the emergency collision braking function Deactivation of the emergency collision risk alert function
Symptoms:	Automatic braking not suited to the vehicle situation The automatic braking cannot be stopped Selection/deselection of the emergency collision braking function impossible Unwanted selection/deselection of the emergency collision braking function Emergency collision braking cannot be stopped No emergency collision alert function warning or unwanted warning The emergency collision alert function cannot be selected/deselected Unwanted selection/deselection of the emergency collision alert function The emergency collision risk alert function cannot be set or adjusted
Suspect Areas:	Suspension and wheels CAN Electrical harness Connectors

I am pleased to report that after months of frustration my C4 gp parking brake fault has been resolved.There were no corroded or broken wires anywhere despite an unnamed specialist French car electronic company that insisting that there was.The problem was the ABS ecu.However when this was replaced and programmed by a Citroen dealer it worked only as a basic manually controlled handbrake.Remaining faults were :
No auto release of parking brake.
No E SP
No hill start assist
Service light on
Faults would not clear showing
No comms with ABS/ESP U1213 81
No comms with BSI U1318 86
Interestingly, Diagbox said no comms with engine ECU too.
The fix was recalibrating the yaw speed sensor which immediately cleared all faults.
A simple handbrake fault caused so many other problems.Anway , my thanks to all of you who offered advice and information and hopefully this might help someone else who is presented with these codes.

Hello I have DS5 with problem with nox probe and this part was change on new and OE. Aftet this I have next fault code u029d. I chec all electric connectors under the car and after this I have next errors u1218 and u1318 and this 2 are permanent. I can not delete this errors. Has anyone had a similar problem?
