I have only visited places north of Bedford since the 1974 local government and county reorganisations and the maps are only intended to give overseas members an idea of where we are talking about.

...and I agree with you too, just answered Paul's question and give him the freedom and opportunity to lob something up about the Wirral! and be bang on the historic County of Cheshire . I like the aberrations of Tyne and Wear, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside, Borders Lothian Strathclyde etc being obliterated in our quest.

Having related the story about one of my main customers, it is only right to mention one of my suppliers in those days also in Cheshire. I used to source most vehicles directly at trade auctions but occasionally a customer had been very specific and I had to resort to searching the trade in general.

One of the most useful suppliers for me was Fords of Winsford,

who were in the process of building a huge retail business but always willing to deal with me and it was not unknown for them to take one of my 3 year old disposals in Part ex for the car I was after. Most of the cars I took in from the law firm were 3 year olds with 20-24k on the clock which was a handy category for them to sell in Cheshire. Likewise I was able to source at Cheshire trade and sell at London retail which helped a lot!!

The delve into Cheshire has helped me make sense of a series of pictures I took in 2016. Turns out we were on a trip through Cheshire on the way to Shrewsbury to stay a couple of nights at the Holiday Express on a cheap deal.
So exiting Manchester, stopped off to photograph the Mere AA box, then proceeded via Lymm Garden Centre, a few country roads and the Anderton Boat Lift to Northwich and its bridge. Then onto Nantwich and its Sainsburys and onto the Boars Head at Whalgerton

Where we exited current or historic Cheshire not sure most likely just out of Audlem near Whitchurch, but by the time we got to Whitchurch and our walk along the towpath to the lock side cafe we were in Shropshire.

I do recall Cheshire's Congleton competing in Its a Knock out. Cant find any clips.

No matter another pair of Cheshire's finest competing together, Crewe and Nantwich, went over to Rochefort Belgium to compete for Britain in Jeux Sans Frontiers, and its on film.

Unfortunately it's the whole thing or nothing, but if you stick with it for the first game...a triumph and six points for Crewe and Nantwich. I would leave it on to Eddie Waring introducing the "Fil Rouge" which used to be known as the "Mini Marathon" in the UK "Its a Knock-out"

Remember this passed for light entertainment at the time...

So what do we need....registration plates, a bit of Cheshire music, beer, cheese, fingerpost direction signs, something quirky to join the Cheshire jeux sans frontiers post, some moving pictures related to Cheshire and anything else anyone can come up with, and yes at least one post from or about the the Wirral.

So the vehicle reg...the relevant letters in the period of interest are

M, MA, MB, and LG and TU

Out for a walk across some fields nearby following designated paths. Something about the tree and pond caught my eye.

Possibly the most famous of Cheshire's registration numbers has been moved around the market quite a bit. Since it would be the correct initials for me I have watched its progress since Max Bygraves put it up for sale. However at the moment I can only find two cars which have carried the number:
