C4 digital instruments display

Unread post by IcarusBop »

Hello, I have a digital instrument display on my 2008 Picasso C4, please see the attachment for a photo of the same display I have (note, this is not a photo of my actual display as I don't currently have one).

The display has developed a fault where it is missing a few rows of pixels at the bottom, it is annoying my wife so I'm trying to find a replacement but have not been able to find one anywhere.

Can someone advise where I might get one for DIY replacement or does this have to be a dealer fix which will undoubtedly be excessively priced?

Thanks

1) You can't just swap these - they must ne the exact correct part number.
2) Swapping the display with the correct part from a used vehicle will result in the highest mileage of the 2 vehicles being applied. So if the donor instrument panel has a higher mileage, your car will permanently take on the new mileage so be warned.
3) The display screen can be replaced, but these are just over £1000 new.

There are multiple levels and versions of these screens - each depending on specific equipment and options the vehicle has, so you must get the correct on or the systems will malfunction.

As Marc said, if the replacement unit has higher mileage recorded then THAT will become the current mileage. However, there are companies who can 'virginise' the relevant part (so it will show 0 miles), and when it is fitted it would take on the mileage held elsewhere in the ECUs. When you do get a suitable replacement unit getting it reset could be worth considering.

All

Thanks very much for the info so far, my wife does not currently think that it is annoying enough to spend £1K on, so she has decided to leave it for now.
again thanks very much.

Whoa, I had no idea about this. Does it apply to the 1st generation Picasso MFD as well? Who might be able to zero the display?
(I'm assuming the OP meant to say his was from 2018, not 2008.)

Yes it does apply to the Picasso and most vehicles. The odometer readings are stored in the BSI and in the instrument panel ECU and are always compared. As soon as a replacement instrument display is fitted, the readings are compared and one or the other is updated to the highest values. It's to help prevent mileage fraud on vehicles.

Of course, these can be adjusted by those with specialist equipment for legitimate reasons at a cost, but you'll always get those dodgy people that will do this for nefarious reasons, so always important to check mileage against service records & MOTs for peace of mind when buying a used vehicle from places like 'Boycies Used Car Lot' .

Thanks. I still quite don't get why the number in the BSI shouldn't be enough, but then again I know very little about this.

I do have 2 questions if they're not offtopic:

1. Other than the mileage, are there any issues when replacing the MFD in a Picasso? Can the regular C4 Picasso I use any Grand Picasso I screen? What about the C4P II, will it take a C4GP II screen of any year?

2. Is it just a matter of putting the plug in the socket? Or is some configuration via Diagbox or the like needed?

Thank you.

I have a C4GP 2017 Puretech Petrol and it had a black white monochrome speedo.

8-) I replaced the speedo with the 12 inch HD screen from a UK donor car 2019 model with less milage than mine.
It works perfectly and it registered to the higher milage my car has.

:!: I had to buy an additional LVDS cable (2m)

 The only downside for me now is, that the new speedo shows UK right counter.

:?: Anyone know how to program it to be EU style with counter on the left?
