We had our last round of fuel price reductions on the 19th of this month and over the last couple of days I filled a couple of vehicles.
Converting to Sterling I'm now forking out 57 p per litre for 95 and 37 p for Diesel.
How are things in the UK?

The Department of Energy and Climate Change publish weekly their analysis of road fuel prices in the UK.

The latest for 18/1/2016 shows

ULSP (Ultra low sulphur Unleaded Petrol) 101.8p/litre (Fuel Duty 57.95p/litre) (VAT 20%)
ULSD (Ultra low sulphur Diesel) 102.8p/litre (Fuel Duty 57.95p/litre) (VAT 20%)

The big supermarkets undercut the average and both fuels are available at the likes of ASDA for 99.7p/litre.

I put fuel in on Friday night at Asda, diesel was 97.7p, unleaded 99.9p per litre.

Friday at our local Tesco I paid 97.7p for diesel, I noted that unleaded petrol was 99.7p, we're a bit 'out in the sticks' here and usually a couple of pence more expensive than in Gloucester City.

I can't help feeling that the electric car, is poised to make a significant breakthrough, with a developing infrastructure to support mainstream use. Virtually all car manufacturers now have an electric option.

Is this period of low oil prices a last ditch attempt to kill the electric car?

I agree that the e-car may well be the future - so where will that leave us petrolheads? Will we all have to be rounded up and put into an Auto Game Reserve?

On the road electricity is also on the rise of course paid 45p/kWh at Instavolt the other day. So bit of translation into litres of fossil equivalent. Assume 10 miles/litre (45miles/gallon). Over the last 3,000 or so miles I have 4.2 miles per kWh on average.

So 10 miles would be 2.38 kWh at 45p/kWh as my "litre equivalent" for on road charging at a "price" of £1.07.
Currently at home its around 18p/kWh "litre equivalent" price of £0.42

Few beat ASDA for being the lowest, or least high for fuel.

RAC fuel price Simon Williams said

“On a positive note, retailer margins – which were the reason drivers paid overly high prices in December and January – have now returned to more normal levels of around 7p a litre.

"We urge the big four supermarkets, which dominate fuel sales, to play fair with drivers and not to make a bad situation on the forecourt any worse by upping their margins again.”

Interesting that the big four supermarkets dominate sales. Currently they do not dominate sales in the fledgling EV Charging infrastructure in the UK, but really they are ideally suited to do the same with electricity as they have done with petrol and diesel. The half hour shop fits in perfectly with the half hour charge up. Currently its the big energy companies, and the transitioning oil and gas giants dominating, acquiring their way into market share of the developing market.

When I first sold it petrol was 1/11d (approx. 9.5p) a gallon and no choice of brands.

When I first bought it, it was 2s 3d a gallon with Esso or Shell. Been with Shell ever since!!

£1.51 a litre at my local Tesco today so £6.86 per gallon.
