There is a more than even chance I am related to the late Ian Banks. My brother in law went to school with Jack Vetriano and, as a youngster, my wife used to play with Henry McLeish (Scottish First Minister) - Fife's a braw place!

Sounds like the satnav in our 3008. She gets very nervous when we cross the new bridge over the Forth and asks us to do a U turn mid water!

As I said, it is in Ian Rankin country.
Here is a grainy picture from my wife's phone camera about 10 secs before she collared him in the Robert Nairn and half an hour before we all sat down in the Old Kirk in Kirkcaldy for an evening's book readings and talks. Lovely guy and very down to earth.

The Central Bar is actually in Bowhill though the two communities are effectively one today and are just referred to as Cardenden. In Ian Rankin's younger days he would have talked of Bowhill as a village close to Cardenden. Many Gothenburg pubs have disappeared from the landscape nowadays and very few people realise why they were set up in the first place. It is worth reading about The Gothenburg Principles and it's origins.

Spot the faulty component :-D

I had to replace the circuit board on my boiler yesterday. 5 points for spotting why it was faulty :)

I'd go for this resistor:

5 points duly awarded :)

The dead giveaway for me was the mildly toasty looking back of the circuit board right where the resistor is #-o There's also signs of where some of the magic smoke has crept up the side of the adjacent relay - though not enough smoke escaped to cause it to stop working completely

Fixed the boiler yesterday - and (hopefully) fixed the washing machine today. It's just non-stop fun here :^o

Quarr Abbey there was a programme on it on the TV this morning. An architectural fest in bricks.

The Grade I listed monastic buildings and church, completed in 1912, are considered some of the most important twentieth-century religious structures in the United Kingdom; Sir Nikolaus Pevsner described the Abbey as "among the most daring and successful church buildings of the early 20th century in England".[1] They were constructed from Belgian brick in a style combining French, Byzantine and Moorish architectural elements.

Following Neil's request for something to do I thought I'd put together a little quiz following the brewing theme. It occurred to me that it would be very easy to look up the answers of which breweries were to be found in the places I list so (mainly due to the date of my reference work :-D ) I decided to list ten places and all you have to do is tell me the brewery that was there in 1973, the year of my marriage!! :-D

1, Southwold Suffolk

2, Brierley Hill Staffordshire

3, Halstead Essex

4, Salisbury Wiltshire

5, Blandford Forum Dorset

6, Stamford Lincolnshire

7, Cockermouth Cumberland

8, Pontyclun Glamorganshire

9, Lancaster Lancashire

10, Kimberley Nottinghamshire

There are some alternatives for some of the places but any of them is acceptable providing I have it listed in my pretty comprehensive reference!!

The first correct answer will be awarded up to 100 points based on 5 points per question and 50 bonus for being first and any subsequent correct entry up to 50 points for effort based on 5 points per question !! Have fun :-D
