There's no official recommendation - it's going to be down to your mileage really - all you need to do is do is to get the oil to temperature 60 °C which is very important (see the guide), and do the first change, which will get the worst of it out.

When filling it with new oil, you just want to get it to mix with the older oil and circulate, so it shouldn't take long. Then as you are changing it a few times the oil will gradually become lighter each change.

I think 4-5 changes is unnecessary - I would get the initial 3 changes done, then leave it for another 30k miles or so before the next change.

One more question.
Sorry for so many questions, I just prefer to ask than do some nonsense.
I drive 50-60 km (about 35 miles) a day. Is that enough for a change. Or do I replace the 3l, go for a short drive and replace the 3l again?

I used an automatic gearbox flush treatment bottle initially which says it helps clean out muck. Certainly came out very black the first time. I put in a full 4 litres in each time, ran through gears for 5 minutes engine running, then drained. I did three on the same day, using 12 litres, levelling the last (don’t forget to get the ATF temperature to 60 degrees first). The last levelling drain the ATF came out very clean. Marc is saying it needs much longer to thoroughly mix old with new ATF, so maybe mine just went in the top, then straight out the bottom without much mixing.

I followed that video (up and down through gears selector) - except an extra step , did a change 3 months ago, and 1000 miles later did another. Do total was 16 litres for me rather than 12.

Bear in mind the volume of oil remaining in the system after draining is approximately 4 litres (the total capacity of a DRY gearbox is 7 litres), so you only change about 3 litres at a time. I suppose it really depends on what colour your oil is when it comes out at the second change as to how long you want to leave it for the third change.

Hi guys! Once again thanx everyone for all help here. This topic is/was more than usefull.

My 09 C4P 2.0hdi AM6 became really jumpy/boat rocking feeling when changing gears. I have followed all instructions but It seems like I still have unanswered problem here.

At the end when the drain plug went "drip drip" i have closed it and added another 500ml of oil and drove off. Works fine (I guess nothin can happen from some excess oil). But at the end do you open small plug once again to level ammount of oil or you leave this 500ml extra inside?

I could not find and answer to this.

Careful - the Citroen documentation states that overfilling the AM6 gearbox, on some models at least, can lead to ‘destruction’ of the box !

With just 1/2 litre I would have thought that would be unlikely but why add the excess fluid ?

add 4 litres, heat to 60 degrees (via lexia), then level check, you dont want to overfill

Well I have to drive 15 miles to garage tommorow so it will pretty much heat up. I dont have Alexia or Diagbox so I will use laser thermometer and use average from 3-4 places on gearbox (that will pretty much do the deal) and drain excess oil to prevent any possible damage.

You are not supposed to put in half a litre in and leave it. The procedure asks you to repeat the top up procedure if you get a 'sequence of drips or nothing'. It is correct when the stream of oil becomes a 'drop by drop'.

I'm following this with interest! My '09 C5 is Euro4, so (I believe) uses the 3309 oil, and is ready for a change. I daren't attempt it myself, local 'autobox specialists' aren't interested, local dealer wanted £600+ to do it (!!! )....I'm a bit stumped really. I've a friend who's a really good, self-taught-over-the-years mechanic, who can turn his hand to most jobs (he rebuilt his Maserati engine a while ago, scared me to death looking at all the bits on the bench!), and has a garage and equipment to die for - he's offered to do the '3 litres at a time' change for me, so perhaps that's the way forward.

Anyway, whilst looking for the fluid, I dropped on this -

Any observations? Does it have to be Esso? I trust Smith and Allan, having bought some very specific grease for my bike's driveshaft from them in the past, and their tech helpline is very good, so I'm happy that I wouldn't be buying something not up to the job - and the price looks very good too, of course, always a bonus!

It may have already been covered in this very detailed thread but I've completed 1 partial change on my AM6 last year with the above 3309 and have had no issues. Planning on second change in the next few weeks when the weather warms up a bit. kneeling and lying on cold concrete with a cold breeze going up my trouser legs is no longer my idea of fun.

Hi,
yesterday i had flush and refill my AM6 (TF80SC) on C5 2.2 HDi 200 MY2011, but not so sure that leveling went OK.
In short - drained the box on >60 degree, comes out about 2.7-2.8l oil.
2 times fill with 4l, starts engine, go through gears and drain. Last fill was with 3.5l - as per service manual : 3l refill + 500ml for leveling.
After last fill i had to drive the car to get transmission oil temp over 60 degree, but somehow missed the point to stop and it gets over 73, so need to wait few minutes with engine off to let it cool down a bit.
When oil temp reached 65 degree started the engine, moved the lever through the gears and open level plug.
For my surprise goes out about 850-900 ml before start to drips which seem a bit more than the video of Volvo that is posted above.
Basically math says : 2.7-2.8l first drain + 850ml comes out when leveling is about the 3.5-3.6 that we had added on last refill.
But still confused if everything is correct with leveling because comes out more than 500ml ?
The procedure went at independent garage, but they are not autogearbox specialists.
