Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I was aware that the names were fictional but the basic story was true-ish. My parents had the book, which I enjoyed very much.
Gerry did recount the real names and the one that he served on but that was over fifty years ago and long forgotten.

Seen during my bike ride today...
Very cool and desirable
It's believed to be a Lotus, possibly an Exige?
I'm really not good at recognising modern exotica... All I know is I like it
In a lovely shade of red too...

A short bike ride to the highest point in the locality
From up here you can see for miles in all directions!
I've been suffering a little from the Covid jab...This ride made me feel a lot better
Nearby is the remains of an old Royal Observer Corps bunker...

Most of the English Master Posts would have used a Burndept BE525 radio with the aerial atop a (Clarke ?) pump up mast. Assuming that was Bedford Group they would have been on 80.2500.

Spotted this badly sunken water works sluice valve locator post today... It must have been planted in quicksand!

Always something interesting to pick out when you are out and about with a photographic device Jim
POTD needs at least one POTD each day to live up to its name, and hopefully a few more regular contributors like yourself.

..and there's nothing more interesting than a pole (1977 vintage) with the letters NEEB carved in it.
Nice Orange Livery for their fleet. So what was your old electricity board's fleet like?
