NG4 to MyWay Downgrade
Hi, yes have carried out all the correct procedures but I think it's just dead unfortunately, it doesn't respond on diagbox either so think its completely had it. Finding a replacement is just about impossible and the ones I've found are expensive. Do you know if it would be possible to fit an RNEG unit in its place and still have a functional screen/parking sensors etc. Cheers

Re: NG4 to MyWay Downgrade
It is, but of course the NG4 is a double DIN unit, so you'd need to consider trim to cover the gap. Also, depending on whether you have the services module fitted or not can make this easier or harder. The Services Module which is commonly fitted with these systems is hidden behind the dash and takes the microphone feed directly, as well as emergency speaker outputs to the front speaker, handles the emergency locating system and emergency / service calls and Airbag triggering emergency response. It is then CAN connected to the BSI. This is essentially the built in telephone system that uses the SIM card in the passenger glovebox in addition to the bluetooth capability it has.
If you pop your VIN up I can advise if you have this system fitted or not. I've never known these units to be completely dead - and should be able to provide fault codes via Diagbox and live data / actuator testing. I'm wondering if someone has been there before and mis-configured or disabled the system from the BSI.
Check your SHUNT fuse position is positioned to the right in client mode not PARK mode on the BSI fuse box. Also check Fuse F8.

Re: NG4 to MyWay Downgrade
Have checked fuses and configurations which are all correct and ok. Have ordered a 2and hand rneg unit so hopefully it will work, I have the emergency call function with sim card slot in glovebox, will the unit still work with the screen? I'm not fussed about the phone function just to get the radio and parking sensors working

Re: Guide to Replacing the NG4 Navidrive 3D Hard Drive with a CF Card
The screen used on the NG4 is the High Resolution screen, so should work on the RT6.
So you can't just do a straight swap as you have the services module. - everything is designed to be routed through that module to the NG4 via the CAN network and some of the emergency handling too. You will have issues if you just swap it over.

Re: Guide to Replacing the NG4 Navidrive 3D Hard Drive with a CF Card
Hi, so I've fitted my Rneg unit and coded the vin, unfortunately I cannot get and function through the screen. I'm assuming this is because of the "service module"? Is there anyway I can bypass this at all?
Many thanks

Re: Guide to Replacing the NG4 Navidrive 3D Hard Drive with a CF Card
A few things come to mind:
1) If you are talking about the earlier RNEG / MyWay / WIPNAV (not the RNEG2 / RT6 / eMyWay / WIPNAV+) identified by an SD card slot at the middle bottom of the front of the unit, then that used a low resolution screen. Your current display screen will be the DG4 Hi Resolution screen - so I'm not sure whether the Hi Res screen will work with the lower resolution signals.
2) As I think I mentioned above - the Services Module sits in between the NG4 and the other systems in the vehicle, so if you just plug in the RNEG in, then you are going to be missing half the inputs, as these are wired directly to the services module and from there to the BSI and to the quadlock connector. For example the microphone goes to the services module and from there to the NG4, so disconnecting the services module is going to cause problems - this is just one small thing. Your Fascia wiring harness is going to be different too.
3) If you are thinking about an RT6 / WIPNAV+, these didn't become available until much later (2013/14) on this model and the units were available in two different electrical architectures AEE2004 and AEE2010. You would need the AEE2004 version for your vehicle. That uses Hi Resso should will with your existing screen, but you'll still have the other service module issues to deal with. I think later on they used the 'Independent Telematic Unit' which was used for the emergency call and services and for geo-location in an accident.
I can't show you a diagram with and RNEG unit with Services Module because this unit wasn't used with these systems. So I can show you your current setup and one for your vehicle if it had the RNEG fitted.
Your Current System with NG4 & Services Module
84A5 : telematic transmitter-receiver service module
84A6 : SIM card reader
8482 : radio telephone microphone
8486 : external audio-video input unit
7215 : / multifunction screen
8480 : radio telephone transmitter-receiver

8406 : electric aerial module
8404 : aerial /
84A1 : USB socket on front centre console
8415 : compact disc player
84B3 : matrix display on the instrument panel

Re: Guide to Replacing the NG4 Navidrive 3D Hard Drive with a CF Card
Many thanks Marc, going by the 2 different diagrams I should be able to run the 2 missing wires from the quadlock connector to the screen and change a couple of other wires for the screen, I think I've counted a total of 4 wires to make it work in the same way, not sure about other functions but I will start with these and see if I get some sort of display. One thing I noticed on the rneg diagram is the 1 pin red connector that my unit doesn't have but other than that it looks correct. I'll have a go this week and let you know how I get on. Once again many thanks for your assistance so far.

No worries, best of luck - let us know how it goes
Many of the hardware codes are on the wiki here - in component number hierarchy in case there are some you don't know:

Hi Mathew.
Your Hard Disk may be the issue if it is constantly rebooting - some of the operating system files may corrupt or not being written to the drive properly when you updated the firmware. Was this issue happening before you updated the firmware and how long ago did you update the firmware?

Re: Guide to Replacing the NG4 Navidrive 3D Hard Drive with a CF Card
Hi Marc
Me again lol. So I've rewired my car and the screen is not working so I'm assuming this is because of it being the higher resolution one as you said. I've found a fairly cheap working one on ebay from a 308 which is for an rneg unit. I know it will fit but how can I tell if it's from an rneg or rneg2? It's from a 2013 308 and my 5008 is a late 2010. I dont want to buy it and find its another higher resolution one.i haven't got money to burn either .
Cheers

Re: Guide to Replacing the NG4 Navidrive 3D Hard Drive with a CF Card
Hi Jon
I can tell you which screen the 308 had if you can ask the seller for the VIN - then I can determine what Head Unit the 308 was fitted with at factory and consequently the screen type.

I have messaged the seller to find out, I do have the number off the back of the unit though if there is a way to cross reference that? 98043346zd.
