Etna is a regular eruptor and is churning out a fair bit of stuff today.
Quite an awesome sight...

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I had reason to browse through some old photos this evening and during my travels I came across this reminder of things we are all missing:
Anyone know where I was?
Anyone know where I was?
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I can't believe how quickly these milestones are flying by. Clearly I'm having far too much fun!!
Time for a celebratory car again and this really deserves a place on POTD. Enjoy:

Which, according to the Wizards of Unseen University, Ankh Morpork, Discworld, means that it WILL occur.

With acknowledgement to Chris (White Exec) for the research
One of Citroen's finest Beiges is named after this.....(and not the town made notorious by Betjeman, David Brent, and Citroen)

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Mick gave the Newcastle-Norway Ferry a passing mention on the EV spotting thread.
Always been a ferry link between Norway and Newcastle, although no more, effectively ending from 2008.
As a boy we often used to go down to Tynemouth, and always a joy to see the ferries either setting off or returning from Norway. Now this is where memories get muddled. I knew a couple of the ships were named Venus and Jupiter, and so it was, but I also remember black and white funnels, which pics of the Venus and the Jupiter, maybe in updated livery didn't seem to have.
Step up the Leda, in the livery of the Bergen Steamship Company and the black and white funnels. Bit like adidas they had the funnel with the three white stripes (yes alright hoops!).

Great Uncle George and Aunt Maggie went on a trip to Bergen, remarkable for the story told of George "turning green" as soon as the ferry passed the end of the piers. At the time I pictured it as being literal and a bit odd.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
The Venus was rebuilt after having been salvaged from Hamburg Harbour in 1945, and the ship remained in service on the Newcastle-Norway summer sailings until 1968, when she was withdrawn and broken up at Faslane.
Regards Neilhttps://warsailors.com/homefleetsingles/venus.html
and there is a picture after the rebuild
and there also is an atmospheric painting of it coming to the rescue of the cargo vessel Trym in hurricane force winds on the night of January 19th 1937 (Venus and Trym. painting by Frank Henry Mason R.A.).

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I am not certain but I believe the ship we sailed on was Princess of Norway, a trip I have never forgotten thanks to the excellent night's work I had at the Blackjack table!! I do not gamble on horses or football in general but I do enjoy a game of cards where there is at least an element of your own skill and judgement involved. I won just enough to pay for our first round of drinks in Norway!! I didn't play on the return journey but had I had a similar result I would have had sufficient for 3 rounds of drinks in Newcastle!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Stena and Fred Olson both had ferries to Gothenburg and Oslo, years ago. I came from Sweden on my last trip on a Stena ship, to North Shields.
Shame that they have been discontinued as Grandson is in Bergen and it would have been ideal for him.
