Excellent depiction of the great historic event appropriate, as you say, to my current status Neil, and perfectly timed to coincide with my 5400th post celebratory car.

I feel it is not fair to keep posting beautiful cars for my century celebrations so I thought it was time to go for an ugly one!! What better than to go for the car frequently voted as the ugliest of all time? :

While looking at the source of that shield I came across this poem which I think tells the story quite nicely: :-D

IN 1492

In fourteen hundred ninety-two
Columbus sailed the ocean blue.

He had three ships and left from Spain;
He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain.

He sailed by night; he sailed by day;
He used the stars to find his way.

A compass also helped him know
How to find the way to go.

Ninety sailors were on board;
Some men worked while others snored.

Then the workers went to sleep;
And others watched the ocean deep.

Day after day they looked for land;
They dreamed of trees and rocks and sand.

October 12 their dream came true,
You never saw a happier crew!

“Indians! Indians!” Columbus cried;
His heart was filled with joyful pride.

But “India” the land was not;
It was the Bahamas, and it was hot.

The Arakawa natives were very nice;
They gave the sailors food and spice.

Columbus sailed on to find some gold
To bring back home, as he’d been told.

He made the trip again and again,
Trading gold to bring to Spain.

The first American? No, not quite.
But Columbus was brave, and he was bright.
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I came across this today, stuck in a dog bowl going around in circles. Absolutely no idea how it managed to get in there, nor where he came from. He's my new found friend and he's really really small - in fact he's my newt :-D

Neil has pointed out that I have chalked up 1500 likes which means I am glad to know that not all my waffle is unappreciated :-D . So in view of the number a bonus celebratory car which is almost more about the visual striking image of the rather stark colour contrasting than the car itself but either way it is memorable:

The location has a connection with the gunpowder plot and Capability Brown did the grounds...

I got home about five minutes before the heavens opened!

Buckinghamshire is where Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown (1716–1783) established himself as a young man, both in his personal life and his professional reputation. The county has perhaps the largest number of landscapes worked on by Brown including some of the very first he was involved with, and some rank amongst the finest.
Don't know yet if your bike ride location today was in Buckinghamsire, but Capability Brown was certainly quite active there :-D He was a Northumberland man of course born in Kirkharle. :-D

The on going down South to work he moved to Boston, Oxfordshire and on to Wotton Underwood House, Buckinghamshire, seat of Sir Richard Grenville.

Bang on Neil... Pun fully intended ;)

Or should I say, he and his collaborators hoped for a big bang!

It certainly is Mick :) Now known as Gayhurst Court. These days the big house is divided into very exclusive and expensive apartments... At least one resident runs an Aston!
