The USA's most significant Car Advert
GM make a lot of cars, GM are a very large tanker and they like to give themselves 15 years to turn round, but they have chosen to run this ad at the upcoming Superbowl which, whether you like sport or not, is the biggest event in the USA, and its message is strong, not about lifestyle or tech, but about beating the competition, about winning, about USA-USA-USA, and they've got Will Ferrell to act out the drama.
I like it! GM well and truly off the fence. Go GM!
No way Norway

And it was shown AFTER the inauguration of President Biden and not during the time Trump was in office. To me that means GM believes that this will receive the blessing of the White House, as there is (for the next four years, at least) a President who accepts that Global Warming is not the imaginings of deluded tree huggers.

Maybe they don't have any to worry about? From zero sales the only way is up!

That advert plays well on the US attitude that they are the best at anything they do. This advert says otherwise. If GM can make EVs that work well (and sell well) in the USA (which could be difficult considering how BIG the USA is) that will be a HUGE game changer.

Knocking Trump on this might be a little out of place, it was him who told the US motor industry "If you want to sell them here build them here."

Re: The USA's most significant Car Advert
You are not wrong on Trump trying to get US manufacturers to make their products in the USA. That would have the effect of improving their employment figures. However, he clearly believed that Global Warming was a myth, and his actions showed this belief.

Yes, well we won't be going into that here James - that's for each to make their own judgement on, so please stick with the ad and not the politics.

Did they actually move out of the USA to film any of it? It wouldn't surprise me if they used various places in Alaska, Washington and the like!

I did find this quote Paul so you could well be right, those mountains look a bit CGI, and there is nothing like it I have found so far, so close to the coast in "real" SwedenPaul-R wrote: 04 Feb 2021, 14:14 Did they actually move out of the USA to film any of it? Re: The USA's most significant Car Advert
Right!
Here is just about all we have to go on, together with some of the comments above.
For me , the scene is very much more Norway than Sweden regardless of the narrative of the advert. The scene with the container ship may not have any continuity with the actual "harbour scene" although the mountains are similar.
Its a real little town somewhere in the world but can anyone find it
Will Ferrell himself has connections with Sweden with his wife and Gothenburg (Goteburg?). I have my doubts that the little "fishing hamlet" as I imagine it is is anywhere in/near Gothenburg.
Sweden's mountains are all on the inland side away from the coast, and I doubt it is actually Sweden but the flags on the bridge are a joke within a joke, in that he really is in Norway and Norway is dressing up to fool him he is not!
I don't think the scene is from North America dressed up to be Scandinavian, whether West Coast USA, or further up to west Coast Canada and Alaska, and I don't think it is CGI, although initially I had my suspicions about the mountains in the background.
Here's the evidence, extract more from the video if you can. I am nowhere near nailing it myself.
Regards Neil

I have cracked it, the filming was done in Kragero, Norway; here is my supporting evidence:

If you found it without seeing this more recent comment on the vid, then that's absolutely Brilliant. How did you do it?

This is my hometown Kragerø btw. And we're almost as far south as you can come in Norway. And those mountains in the background aren't real. But cool commercial.
