John,
I removed the mounting block on the side of the pinion to make it easier to put a protecting cover over the pinion shaft to give further protection
I hope the photos help.

Re: Modified C5 X7 Steering Rack
hi Kenny.. yes I am probably to do the same.. just weighing up losing any warranty versus trying to help the rack survive. In theory it's been bench tested and should work ok but something is niggling me
will paint the shaft etc etc as well

Re: Modified C5 X7 Steering Rack
Hi John, I used the link in Stu's post here on my Steering Rack thread to get my seals:jgra1 wrote: 05 Oct 2020, 08:40
Now I need the seals. I will re-read posts but has anyone actually bought any from anywhere?

Re: Modified C5 X7 Steering Rack
brief update.
Rack fitted recently, MOT last weekend. No leaks so far! although swimbo has nicked the car (see another post about her car lol)
Great service from Ebay 'Lionautomotive', rack was £175 plus £100 exchange.
I bought the rack late August, fitted mid October.
I bought the seals, painted the input shaft in primer and black paint, I added some red tacky grease to it as well. I cut the boss and nicked my trackrod gaiter from my old rack as a rubber cover (cut down a bit)
Will monitor.
