The west wind was blowing strong in Northumberland today thats for sure and it was moving among the fields of barley. Didn't see Sting wandering about in the fields though!

for the photographers Phil was asked what lens he used to which he replied...

"Panasonic 100-400 at max focal length. Great lens but took me 2 years to save up for it!"

With this post it is 4994 posts and 4993 replies on the POTD thread, with the replies inevitably and always being one behind the number of posts.

I found out about these today. They are edible but it would be hard to find someone who has tried them.
The plant is likes a bit of poor, compacted soil around foot paths, field entrances, waste ground and road sides. Very common on disturbed ground...you will have seen it.

Next time you come across it take one of the flower heads and squeeze it in your fingers then smell it. It has a distinctive and not unpleasant smell but what is it?
