Citroen GS Club Break

Post by Mario »

Hello and thanks for accepting me in your group.
I am about to start restoring a GS Club Break. I do not think I will take it apart as it is in good condition except for the paint work. I have never come across a car that has next to nothing paint on it including undercoat. Has anyone encountered such a situation? I am practically removing all the paint with a scrapper. It had been laid up for over 10 years and started immediately. I only put on a good battery and fed it fuel from a container so as not to pull fuel from the tank which would have been dry and dirty. I might come in need for some parts if I do not source any locally. I noticed that the air filter box is missing. But will keep you posted on developments.

Welcome Mario. It's a pretty quiet forum, but advice is always at hand if you get stuck. Malta - never been there, but the climate will be one where Citroens are less likely to rust away! Keep us posted please.

Hello Derek
Well I just joined and will give it a go to see if there are any people in here who have more knowledge than me. I have been on the Bentley Forums and have had a lot of help from members there. Weather is hot here but then also humid. I am very surprised by the poor paint quality on the car. In the 80s I had a CX2000 Pallas and it was a fantastic car. As for this car Im pleasantly surprised that after years laid up it just came to life without any effort and rose to her correct height in no time.... and kept it.

Paint jobs on the GS were notorious for blowing off in the wind - especially the metallic finishes. Mine is a metallic grey which is almost down to bare metal on the roof. One rear door looks like Elephant skin.
