yep, did indeed buy it. I'd've probably noticed if it was the 16v and thought ooh-err, not likely !!
....however thinking about it, there was no big plastic trim on top of the engine; like there was on the 2.0HDi 407SW 16v, and seems to be on most modern cars; no one could miss "16V" in sizeable lettering on that one, but I could've missed a fairly large rocker cover...
...stress levels were through the roof on arrival, she'd just realised she'd left her handbag, with a substantial amount of cash in it, in the 206SW, 20miles behind us (thank goodness for honest people; it was collected intact)
I'll get a pic when I see it next, daughter's coming over for us to Valet it later in the week and hopefully I'll get to hers in the next day or two to make progress with the 206.
maybe it is both Belt and Chain; that'd be novel [feeling nervous now, this could be complex!]
...and a proper gander at is History; which there's quite a bit of.
I've made a Memo too, to have a look at the 'History' here of the 1.6 and see what I can learn, now I know its a PSA Lump.

lol, I've just had her on the phone, she's doing just fine with it, but Hubby drove it home last night and pulled the Handbrake on hard... so, she couldn't get it off, or get the Hire Car out (parked in front of it) to get to an appointment !

As had been mentioned the 1.6 is a good engine if it has been maintained. The timing chain is on the gearbox end of the engine and if it's not noisy it's probably ok. When it's failing it makes a tinkling sound almost like a worn power steering pump in an older Toyota (sorry that's the only way I can describe it) Do get rid of the oil pipe gauzes and use the correct oil that's vital.

Right Guys, I've had a swot up and got back as far as "johnsonr380"s Thread of 02 Aug 2016, about his 1.6 HDi Picasso.
as well as having a look on Youtube too
I got an awful lot of results, coz the Search engine didn't seem to recognise that 1.6 is a 'word/phrase' in its own right, even by using inverted comma's, but it wasn't too onerous to skip the inappropriate results.
Moving forward, preventative maintenance plans are (some definite, some maybe)
and thanks for the info 'bout the Timing Chain Doctle. This one's fine. Mum's Micra K13 however, which hasn't been disposed of yet; is not, so am reasonably familiar with Timing Chain noise

- to remove the Gauzes as previously mentioned, though I'm leaning more towards replacing them if that's practicable
to replace the Oil Feed Pipe to the Turbo, its not expensive
to use a Slide Hammer to 'Invert' the rather daft 'Dome' on the bottom of the Sump (saw that on Youtube). Anyone here done this? Is there much chance of damaging the Sump in doing so?
to give it an Oil & Filter change with some good quality low SAPS Oil & Filter. Far as I can see, the only brand that labels their oil Low SAPS is Carlube, which I wouldn't normally buy; but it appears that a 'C Rating' 1, 2 or 3 amounts to the same thing. Are all Filters equal or is there a generally regarded 'Best' Brand ...similarly, any Brands to avoid?

1: its not finished yet, one bit 'll be getting Drilled, the other will get a Routed Channel down its middle
2: the slightly different widths relate to my 'trial & error' approach, any more that I make will be the same

looks like you're gonna be right that its a 16V coz from what I read it seems that all the <2011 1.6DHDi's are ekjdm

I think it's actually a multi-purpose kit, to form all the above... In no way is it possibly a Peugeot 206 Boot floor-straightening jig set though
On the subject of the gauze filters, I'm not sure if the accepted wisdom is to simply remove and not replace, although pretty sure it was that way a few years back. The thinking behind such being that a great majority of turbo engines, petrol and diesel alike, do without such strainers and their turbos last exceptionally well. All the strainers do (in my opinion) is create an opportunity for sludgy blockages to form and harden & add something else to potentially break up and find their way into the very items they're supposed to protect.
Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the strainer/part of it, to the vacuum pump, known to break up and ruin the pump hence deletion of that one?
