This might give you some idea of location:

1233 is the Turbo Solenoid electrical connection, which I've marked in yellow and for comparison the EGR solenoid is marked in red.
1233.PNG
Here's a video of a 407 which would seem to agree with the location Alasdair:

And (ordered before I took off the above) I am expecting delivery of this valve which showed it was compatible with 9660693180
RATS ...looks like the wrong one ....

(I can add a filter to the third pipe if that is what it is and it gets me out of the hole.)

I'd send it back and get the right one - as the internals / electrical may be different....

Other than a simple in/out solenoid what other electrics could be in there ?

It is a linear regulator, the controlled vacuum varies with the current applied, so they are (to some extent) calibrated, although in practice many of them only differ in the electrical and vacuum connections.

Okay i am totally confused here :(
The original part number and diagrams for location and replacement are for the EGR valve, hence the external filter ?
The correct part number for the turbo solenoid valve should have an internal filter, a small foam disk that can be removed, cleaned and replaced?
Can a fault with both parts flag up the overboost/underboost faults logged ?

You are right, things have got well mixed up....

Sticky's original post with part no and drawing looks like the right one to me. Marc then posted a pic of it down the back of the engine (driver's side) with a short vent hose over the top of the rocker box.

The last post of the 1st page is where it starts to go wrong I think - Marc posted the diagram, but has suggested that item 18 is the turbo solenoid on the front of the engine, whereas I am sure it is item 23, over the back (it shows the hose connecting to the turbo (my highlight)
C5 vac valvesJPG.JPG
Then Marc has posted the electrical diagram which shows the cable connector for the turbo solenoid over the back of the engine and the EGR on the front, but then a video that points at the valve on the front, but suggests it is the turbo solenoid.

Sticky has then removed a valve (probably the one on the front) - and then suggested the one he has ordered is not right. Which is not surprising, since the one he is holding in his hand is the EGR solenoid not the turbo one!!

So, put that one back Sticky, the take the one of the back of the engine, and it should match the one you have ordered....

Phew, I'm off for a sit down - and I haven't even had to take the damn thing off!!!

Well I put that one back on and I have removed the (?) faulty one.
I did notice a release of vacuum when I pulled the pipes off.....waiting delivery of the new one on Monday.

I have available a variable/digital voltage/amps output transformer......what would the method be for testing these solenoids ? as I have been given TWO 2nd hand ones today from a scraped 207.....

This is all I have on it - ECU controlled - variable voltage.
Sticky C.PNG
"m" Outlet to boost pressure waste gate (WASTGATE).
"n" Vacuum inlet (via the vacuum pump).
"p" White marking.
"q" Connector .
"r" Atmospheric pressure inlet.

The solenoid control is an OCR (Opening Cyclical Ratio) type control.
The proportional electrovalve controlled by an OCR voltage is connected to the following components:
  • Atmospheric pressure
  • Vacuum supplied by the vacuum pump
The pressure supplied by the electrovalve is included between the atmospheric pressure and the vacuum pump vacuum.

Electrical special features
Engine management ECU control (earth).

Variable voltage control (OCR):
  • Full supply (maximum OCR) = Maximum vacuum
  • No supply (minimum OCR) = No vacuum (atmospheric pressure)
