FCF AA BOX Challenge 2019-Just Jersey left!

As my signature currently testifies there are only 2 roadside AA boxes remaining unclaimed.

The one from Jersey, Trinity to be precise, could be expected to be a little difficult.

Does the FCF have any members from Jersey

It's pretty near France so you might expect some French Car interest, or maybe everyone is still driving round in low mileage Austin 1100's or Triumph Roadster 2000's. The Halfway House one in Devon (Exeter-Sidmouth road) I am surprised still remains unclaimed. Even with a "What do you know about Devon?" thread deviously designed to reach out to possible AA Box challenge participants.

So today sees the launch of the "What do you know about Jersey?" thread. Will Devon face the ignominity of being the last box to be claimed....

Additional AA Box at Wythall Transport Museum.

I'm not really 'into' Buses as such, but I do recommend a visit, only a mile ish off the M42 on the South side of Birmingham (a junction or two east of Hopwood Services). I was especially surprised at the size of the place, with a 'Main' Shed and at least two other large ones containing what must be getting on for 100 Buses in all, mostly Double-Deckers. There's a static collection of Milk Floats too.

I had a fabulous couple of hours there and could've stayed all day (but I had SWMBO with me), hence an unashamed 'plug' for a fabulous place, run by friendly Volunteers, a couple of which I chatted to. In the words of Arnie "I'll be Back".

Btw, the car (Dropbox pix) wasn't wearing wheeltrims at the time due to it awaiting new rear Bleed Nipples and a re-bleed, having only just replaced the F-R Brake Pipes. This has actually proved more difficult than anticipated due to duff Nipples..... no, I'd never heard of such a thing either!

So . . . found the illusive Half Way House box, after a short detour on the way back to London this evening (having left earlier than usual & it being a lovely Indian Summer's day.) Wondered how I'd missed it, as it's right on the on the roadside - but then it is black (strange they weren't yellow really) & on a very gloomy stretch of road, due to overhanging trees.

No photos though -'cos don't do them (& certainly couldn't be bothered to learn how to up-load them).

Someone else can have that dubious pleasure; extraordinarily, it's only 5 miles from the M5!

Nothing dubious about the pleasure....if someone actually goes out and photographs it, vehicle/bike/dog in tow I will be ecstatic. As Led Zep may have put it..."been a long time" two and a half years since the thread started.

In May 2016 the FCF AA BOX Challenge to visit the 19 remaining roadside AA in the United Kingdom boxes was down. Three years later 2 remain....Devon and Jersey.

The box is claimed with an original photo as evidence, and with a little bit of creativity to add interest you can include your mode of transport/dog/ or even, as the two brave souls (Davie and Chris) on the North Coast 500 provided for us....the "selfie".

Its all logged and recorded in the pages of this thread.

Two boxes remain unclaimed by FCF members....but feel free to lob up here pictures as you visit the others. Details on page 1 post 1 but referred to throughout the thread.

If you can catch a low flying Tornado in your photograph you may be excused for not including your own personal mode of transport.

Great British Car Journeys on Channel 4 yesterday had a little feature on the Devil's Bridge AA box. Peter Davison and Chris Timothy stopped off at it to inspect it - though it does look a bit shabby now

Peter has claimed the last remaining box on Mainland UK, only Jersey left now!

Managed it at last, not very good pictures it was getting dark, took them about 6.00pm

Not Jersey, I'm afraid, but I passed one of the bonus boxes today. Box 321 - Legions Cross which now lives in Eardisland, about a mile from its original home. It's in fairly good condition and houses a small exhibition about its history.

Excellent Picture, Eifion very much like your transport!. Last year we had a short holiday in Herefordshire staying at Kington so not a kick in the pants away from that box....I should have remembered my own research and looked for it. We were through Leominster too.

Halnaker, just outside Chichester, and not far from Tangmere. Remember (as a teenager in the 60s) seeing on the OS map that it had a windmill - although never got to see that. Just along the by-road stood a Milk vending machine, iirc.
