tangents are good....you come across things you'd never normally see whilst 'on yer bike'
the Brickworks is now surrounded by new Industrial Units, Hednesford FC and the usual Brown site 'executive' boxes.
from my garden i can see in the general direction of the Reserve but 2 valleys and hills in the way

I do quite enjoy riding into the areas of old workings, more ovrr in a car you woukd look and Think, i must stop and have a look there, but never doo, on a boke you can just nip in! Lots of trails down here built in old mining waste valleys! Surrounded by mine workings and history, fascinating!

Oops here comes another off topic tangent, and not every post will be able to be linked to my new found “named brick” fascination, but who knew Cornwall was the home of the black brick

Didn't the London Brick Company make headlines some years ago when they decided to trim down their workforce somewhat, as a few disgruntled (soon to be redundant) employees add a few choice words to the brick vocabulary?

Well, it certainly is true thay you learn something everyday! I do recall hearing 'the old brick works' being mentioned in a lot of the local port villages, would make sense i suppose! I know our house (bungallow) is made of Mundic block, which of the time was very popular, mixture of concrete and mining waste, many grades of block exist, the good block is stronger than standard everyday block, the bad, about as good as making them from sand and water! Makes for attatching anything to the walls interesting!

Seemlessly back on topic. Anyone know what a "Brick Workout" is....

A unique way of doing the traditional triathlon brick workout. Triathlons are typically won on the run. Unfortunately, the typical triathlete jumps off the bike with their legs feeling like anvils. Most try to abate this phenomenon by doing bricks—a bike ride followed immediately by a run.

There’s some nice “named” bricks at Ravenscar on the east cost of Yorkshire, I found um being used as a footpath heading for the Alum works. (Not on my bike)

..and to link back with the cycling theme... Ravenscar is on the Whitby-Scarborough Cycle trail along the old railway. In 2017 there were ambitious and controversial plans for developments to the trail...as reported here

Clocked up 200km this month, which is a big step up for me on recent times! Trouble with lots of miles is it = lots of maintenance! Out with the family most of the time, so that's 4 bikes, which seem to need a constant supply of chain lubrication, gear and brake adjustments! Only one puncture so far though... Then this morning I went out on the mountain bike and promptly snapped the chain.... seems my slightly lackadaisical approach to lubrication might not be enough for a narrow 11 speed chain! Last time I looked, I couldn't find my chain splitter, so I'll need to buy a new one I guess

Anyone not broken their duck for February yet. Only a few days to go for me now to honour my own target of doing 5 miles on my bike in February
