Series 2 Morris Oxford I'd say. They did at the time make a Morris Cowley in the same shape, a cheapo Oxford really with a 1200cc engine...…………………….or maybe an imported Hindustan

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Its not an MO and its not a Series V, so its definitely a II, III, or IV so theres a 1 in 3 chance of being right
Do I spot a bit of two-tone-age though, and would it be a touch more unusual if it turned out to be like this...

Regards Neil

The Morris Cowley was car number 2 for our family back in the 1960's. I cried my eyes out when we got it and got rid of our first ever car.....which was always going to be special a 1958 Ford Anglia 100E. The Cowley was just so old fashioned in comparison, a big black beast, with a silly column change and a bench front seat, and Dad got it from somewhere in Durham which had rows and rows of cars in a field not like a "proper Garage" more like a scrapyard.Gibbo2286 wrote: 26 Jan 2019, 10:07 Series 2 Morris Oxford I'd say. Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Jim.
Good thought that. My mum bought a brand new traveller in '63, £600 including undersealing which I thought quite expensive at the time, she used to varnish it every year. We had two wooden series 2 Oxford estates, very rare now. I fitted a Perkins 4/99 diesel to the last one we had, eventually sold it to a chap in Ireland, he did thousands of miles in it.

You've got it but it was a series 2 with a difference, it had a professionally fitted Perkins 4/99 engine conversion and I paid the princely sum of £60 for it from a chap in Maidstone. It was a very nice car, my wife loved it, there was so much room when she had to brake hard once her passenger landed on the floor between the seat and the dashboard and there was plenty of room to do that.
We lent it to a friend one day and he wrote it off up north somewhere, never saw it again. The Hindustan taxi was a mark 3, still seem to be quite a few about. Saw on in 'Murder in paradise' the other night.

I had one of those all 'metal estates' when we got married which for some reason they called a Mk 4, also dieselised but with a floor change! That picture was taken on our honeymoon.

The series 2 was also sold as a Hindustan Landmaster.

My first (mechanics) encounter with an MO Oxford was with a stripped camshaft gear, for quietness they made the gear from Tufnol and a tight camshaft bearing had caused it to lose several teeth.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I tell you what, the FCF throws up some outrageously unlikely co-incidences.
Yesterday Jim posted up his Cycling shadow, probably the first ever time the "shadow" has been brought forward onto this forum for its 5 minutes of fame...then....
I unwittingly select from all the morris oxford pictures on the internet a picture which heavily features the "long shadow" of the photographer then lo and behold from Peter's archive pics he follows up with one that also features the shadow of the photographer, very probably Peter himself
What are the chances of that happening?

Yes I think it probably was, a bit lighter and taller in those days.
That was taken at a site in Tavistock, lovely spot.

I will leave the pictures for a while and let you have the thread back. Will put some more on when I have reprinted the transparancies.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Yep, that's where the username came from.
Went for a walk in the woods, ages since I was there in daylight (walked son's dog there when I had it dumped on me over Christmas)
I could see the kites a mile away and they looked huge. When I was 100 yards away they seem to have shrunk.
Should have had a better camera with me.
