This is not your "A to B", Commuting, going to the supermarket, sort of motoring pictured here.
This is your day out in the country, or at the seaside sort of motoring, al ready for a stop off and some alfresco entertainment.
...and the accessories industry provided the equipment!
Have a peek over at oldclassiccar.co.uk you will see what I mean.

Re: Tartan Travel Rugs and other Nostalgic Motoring Accessories
None of those are accessories, just examples of the period junk that a section of the classic car scene has attracted (adopted?) I'll leave it to you to decide whether it's preferable to an old pedal car & beaten-up suit case on a rusty roofrack.

Re: Tartan Travel Rugs and other Nostalgic Motoring Accessories
Here's some proper accessories to ponder then Van for the purist! There's even some tartan seat covers if you page down the brochure. But again I dont have to be that accurate, its only a game! and as in all games encouraging participation is the key.

If only we could have a copy of this we would have been able to see the official Hillman Super Minx Accessories chapter and verse

Fitted a lot of those Neil but the leopard skin ones were the favourites.

Couldn't afford leopard skin seat covers in my day but you could buy leopard skin travelling blankets so we tucked those into the seats.

Re: Tartan Travel Rugs and other Nostalgic Motoring Accessories
My wife had a dental appointment and I popped home to give her a lift in a customer's Humber Hawk with leopard skin seat covers, the dentist butchered her and a hundred yards down the road she said "I'm going to be sick.", the car screeched to a standstill and she was bundled unceremoniously out onto the footpath.

Re: Tartan Travel Rugs and other Nostalgic Motoring Accessories
My wife used to work in a Rootes garage when we were first married, we bought one of the first new shape Hawks for very little money, a '57 I think it was.
It had some well worn and tatty seat covers but for what we paid I wasn't disappointed but I thought I would take them off and look underneath anyway, what was revealed was a set of brand new looking red leather seats. They must have had the covers on since they bought it.

Poor girl On both counts!
Reminds me of when our kids were little.... Being sick in the car was a fact of life for a while and cue a big clean-up at the end of every journey... There's only one thing worse to spill in a car and that's milk
I once spilt milk in an MG Metro of mine and I never fully got the smell out... Even having the carpets out and shampooing them didn't work perfectly!

And subsequently you felt hungry every time you drove it!

If only I'd been driving around in those days. The times I've driven to work just wishing I could fry up a couple of eggs on the way...
