Re: X7 electric tailgate
Finally, got around to having a look, turns out it’s a broken wire in the loom between the car and the tailgate, as mentioned by Marc.
I’ve got the day off tomorrow, so my plan is to rewire the “loom” using more sturdy cables as opposed to the cheap crap almost single strand stuff that’s currently being used.

Re: X7 electric tailgate
You don't actually need stronger wiring if you mean stiffer. The best type of wire would be more flexible and you get flexibility by going thinner. So instead of, say 10 strands of thin wire a better wire would have 20 strands of even thinner wire.
Stiffer wire will break even quicker.

Paul,
That's what I meant, sorry, It's been a long week, I'm just wondering whether to just get a new rear loom (part number 6534SX) phone call to the dealer in the morning will answer that question, what I can't work out yet is where the multiplug is for the tailgate loom.

Re: X7 electric tailgate
If it's like the loom on our old Xsara estate it'll be hidden inside the rear wing. The RH side in our case.
I cut out sections so that some entirely new cable was where the flexing took place and the soldered joints were in the sections that were held rigid.

Re: X7 electric tailgate
That's my thoughts too, I've already done that with the high level brake light

Re: X7 electric tailgate
Can't see that part number for an X7 Richard?
I think you mean 6534SX - but the price is the same!

Re: X7 electric tailgate
I was referring to the older model with the electric tailgate window opening switch issue with the broken wire under the rubber, but at least the fault has been found now.

Re: X7 electric tailgate
That is indeed what matters I guess. It's just that you dismissed my suggestion which turns out to be the cause of the issue as irrelevant. But you do get the credits. Seems a bit ironic

Re: X7 electric tailgate
Tailgate now working after splicing in 4 lengths of wire,
The break was in the rubber tubing coming from the gromet in the top left corner, that Marc had mentioned in an earlier post.
I disconnected the loom from the junction point, which is above the tailgate ECU located on the left hand side as you look in the boot, to get access to the connections, you have to remove the cubbyhole and side trim, this has 2 torx screws hidden behind the plastic blanking plates and then it's held in place by a series of metal spring clips, a got tug, and they came away, you also have to remove the plastic strip that goes between the roof lining and the side panel as the loom has a couple of clips holding it in place.
Once you've disconnected the cable, it can be fed back through the gromet hole to allow you space to work. I had to remove quite a bit of the cable "wrapping" to get access to the wires, the by "wiggling" them around I could hear the switch relay "clicking" as it gained and lost power. This was how I found one of the wires had broken in the rubber tubing.
So, once again, thanks to everybody for their input, and Marc, I owe you
Next job, the handbrake

Re: X7 electric tailgate
Glad it is sorted Steve, another case of the C4 Picasso wiring blues then it would seem!
Credit to Mr Furriegurrie, who also suggested a wiring loom issue, which I did dismiss, as I mistakingly thought he was referring to the MK II model electric tailgate window issue that is completely different.
