Yes, that was on the other side... The coal-fired cabin heater was there to keep you warm whilst awaiting recovery

I can think of a genuine (although I am not sure it is the correct) reason for an outside hatch. If you have a gas stove (on a narrow boat or caravan, for example) the bottles have to be stored in a vented locker external to the living space (the only thing passing from the locker into the living space is the gas pipes). This means that, should a bottle develop a leak, the gas vents to open air, and not into cabin air. This also means that the level of gas to air would remain low, reducing the chance of an explosion.

Mum used to have a gas heated water boiler, and the bottles were in her bow locker. Even though she no longer has said boiler, she does have a single ring gas hob, and she still stores the bottles for it in the bow locker.

This is a photo taken a long time ago outside my friend's (now deceased) house, I'm struggling with the car, can't recall him ever having anything like it.

Could be a good one Gibbo.....dont know it off the top of my head..but I do enjoy a delve

Possibly round winter of discontent-ish time Gibbo judging by the snow...too new a photo for '47 or '63 so early '79 would be my best bet, when the snow lasted months and the rubbish in the streets was overflowing.

Of coursei could have just been a normal winter scene that could have happened anytime

Mid to late 80s Neil,

The container in the background of this one was only bought after I closed the shop in 1984 and used for my forecourt shop, the lady is my mate's wife who worked for me at the time.

Passed my driving test in one of those! Its got the lower trim along the line of the centre of the wheels but can't find any pics with the upper coachline as our whatsthisthen? Square number plate and possibly large square light clusters do fit

1983 Vauxhall Astra meets the double side trim/coachline element but the top line is above the door handles and it has door mirrors, and the rear light clusters aren't big or square enough elements which don't fit

I thought you might be close then Neil, I recall he had a Chevette for a company car for a while, a closer look though the rear is different, number plate below the bumper and 'Vauxhall' in the place where the number plate is on the mystery car.

I'll have to get in my time machine and go sweep the snow off.

Can't quite nail your white car in the snow Gibbo. As Bobins said could be from the Datsun/Nissan Cherry stable, maybe one of the later versions than the 100A, from the early/mid 80's some of which did have the 2 double trim lines/coachlines down the side eg

Not an MGF Jim, but our whatsthisthen? is no stranger to the FCF. Its has appeared 36 times in various discussions and declared as one of a bunch of 5, its former owner described as "Cars you most regret selling!"

247 licenced 401 on SORN as at Q2 2018 so not likely to see too many in the wild so here's a bit more.
