Its been a while, and there have been times when the OTCL has really hit the doldrums, but 68,000 posts has finally been reached. Things are looking up though CitroJim's back and its chugging along nicely just now.

So here is my customary locomotive POTD

Its a Spanish one-(yes we used to be able to make our own!), Class 68, 68005 to be precise named Defiant after the well known radio brand of the Co-operative Wholesale Society!

I was going to say it makes a pleasant change but most people/firms were like that in the '50s-'60s. very few now though. That cost was divided between three cottages but as we had the original septic tank in the garden all the paper work came to us.

The old, die-hard trainspotters (Bashers) hate the new Class 68... To modern and too Spanish for their liking...

Just for completeness the bike with the two front wheels is a Yamaha Niken LMW (Leaning Multi-Wheel). Relegated to mere background and hardly gave it a glance as I took a few snaps of the GT750. Hope the Niken owners weren't too disappointed that the Kettle was causing more of a stir than their odd looking hunk of modern tech!

Someone has shares in 'Belgum Alu' there!, also noticed it's got K&N's or S&B's instead of the original air box. That'll be worth a few quid I'd imagine.

Bit of disruption on the Great Western Railway

One of these high-speed Class 802 train's was on a test run around 10pm Tuesday, running from London to Bristol depot when it ripped into the overhead wires, bringing them down. Still being the in vogue "bi-mode" locos it was able to extracate itself under diesel power.

Nothing more British than a Hitachi..there's even a factory here up North at Newton Aycliffe but these particular ones are made at their factory in Pistoia (Italy)

I do believe the offending train came from Hitachi's quaintly named "North Pole Depot"
