Don't know how up to date those records are but 51.28mph on a Moulton AM7 in 1986 still standing unsurpassed today? Wonder what Jim Glover had for breakfast that day

Cocaine and red wine if the standards of 70s and 80s cycling were being upheld..
You might like Jeremy Clockson from the Terry Pratchett book "Thief of Time" then, Jim. He was a clockmaker, and his clocks were very accurate (he was somewhat obsessive about time; there was a little bit of trouble at the Clockmakers' Guild, as Williamson kept his clock 5 minutes fast, but Jeremy is now taking his medicine). Jeremy had one timepiece that went off just before the hour; this was so that he could warn any customers to cover their ears. On the hour all of his clocks rang the hour in their own peculiar ways; "cuckoos cuckooed, the hour pins fell out of the candle clocks, the water clocks gurgled and see-sawed as the buckets emptied, bells clanged, gongs banged, chimes tinkled, and the Hershebian lawyer beetle turned a summersault."
Jeremy could build clocks with an accuracy better than one second in eleven months, which was better than any other clockmaker in the city.

They're not bikes
Hard to ride and likely to put any potential cyclist off for life... It saddens me when I see people struggling along on cheap, heavy, over-tyred bikes totally unsuitable for anything... I know their riders will end up hating them and giving up what is a great means of transport and a fantastic means of keeping fit...
Such a shame...

OK, they are not road bikes, but they are good for off road cycling where the ground is less firm than ideal!

playing 'catch up' again, previous two pages to date unread.
ticking clocks as relaxing, cor, goes to show..... have the opposite effect for me, I have been known to remove a ticking clock or its batteries from where I'm attempting to sleep
30mph +, I can only think of one occasion when I topped it, and I'm with you Jim, very scary; I still to this day feel a little bit guilty when I remember the oncoming Vauxhall Chevette that I missed by an awfully small margin at that speed. I'd've been a gonner.
You'll like the attitude of the Dutch to cycling Jim, its class-less and age-less.... and initially quite weird to see, they mostly use a sturdy 'Sit Up & Beg' Road bike on (probably) 26 x 1, 1/2's ('Trade Bike' Wheels) that pretty much disappeared from the UK some while ago.
Velorama, a short journey from Amsterdam, I believe is the biggest Bicycle Museum in Europe
Am I the only one who has a camera, or a phone that takes pictures...surely not....
Its easier to join in than not.
