Classic car Spring/Summer collection-2018

Unread post by NewcastleFalcon »

Change of tiltle....its almost spring and there are a few daffodils out uo here now!

I'll start it off with an internet spot, rather than a real-world spot.

I know folks use e-bay to buy and sell cars, but this type of thing? I would expect that at some up market auction firm with a targeted market of well heeled customers.

Buy it now price of £160,000 bids invited at £130,000 to kick the auction off.

Would be nice for a bit of summer open toppage

I was shopping at Asda, Lower Earley, just now, and this little car pulled in. Not in showroom condition, but it looks loved;

Like the blue skies appropriately spring-like, and for the first real life classic spot of the season, a car with literal wing mirrors, nice to see! :-D

Tex wing mirrors :) I've fitted an awful lot of those.

John Steed's Bentley on the Avengers Return of the Cybernaut episode this very morning.

Reg RX6180...still in existance today.....then again you dont scrap a 1930 6.5Litre Bentley do you?

http://www.vintagebentleys.org/carpages/rx6180.php
"In 1966/7 I used to collect this car from Mr Gooch in Sussex, drive it to the ABPC Studios north of London for it to be used in the filming of The Avengers. I kept it overnight outside my mother's house in South London and would phone up a couple of friends, say "I've got the Bentley" and we would go to our local coffee bar or pub! It always caused quite a stir! (I was only 22 or 23 at the time)

John Steed (Patrick Macnee) couldn't drive it so long shots of the car were often of me wearing a bowler hat.

After driving it many times through London's traffic I can sympathise with Bugatti's somewhat disparaging remark about the cars!

Many fond memories of this car. Would love to drive it again."

Here we have a Riley (Marque now owned by BMW) and a Vauxhall (Marque now owned by PSA)

Both looking like they need a bit of restoration!

Nice bit of styling those Viva HC Estates, if a bit impractical (ie the slope to the rear window)

The orange Vauxhall is a very late RWD Cavalier by the way

That little 'Bettys Tea & Coffee CA' gets about, I've got a picture of it at a show in Gloucs.

A gorgeous yellow 2CV and some odd British open topped sports thing from the 50s that stank as it passed me on my bike ride today...

The thing I recall about the sports car was that it was grey and had its spare wheel mounted in a well on the boot lid... The wheel had lots of circular holes in it... Quite a lovely wheel actually...

Mini Clubman estate today...no not the huge modern ones one of the old ones.

In light blue, but no camera so we might as well let Wiki remind us of the sort of thing we are talking about,

..there was of course the famous 1275 GT version. Extra points for a spot of one of those. Very Maxi-esque front!

Youngest daughter's first own car was one of those, in a disgusting yellowy orange with brown bits down the side - an utter disaster that she loved until it fell to bits.
