I bought, as Christmas presents for several people, "Do It Yourself Brain Surgery and Other Home Skills". Very silly and amusing. I like the pre-requisites for some of the 'tasks'. For "Convert Your Home to a Romantic Ruin" you will need the following;

A House,
A good supply of water,
A shovel,
100,000 termites,
6 breeding pairs of bats,
Several large tents,
Somewhere else to live.

For "An Ocean Liner of your own";

A 60ft gantry crane
At least two hammers,
A wheelbarrow,
Lots of room.

Don't know if its any good but this sprang from Jim's picture of the Stewartby Chimneys of the London Brick Company over on POTD.



Yes the famous London Fletton brick made from Clay with an organic content from seaweed which facilitates the firing without additional fuel being required.

At £6.74 worth a punt putting it in the Pickled Egg Library for the amusement of the punters who thirst for knowledge as much as Lattes and beer in the snug!

Wow I must get that...

Especially as I've lived all my adult life around a large concentration of brickworks in and around the Marston Vale...

All were London Brick Company works and made Flettons of varying quality - often very poor...

Only today I've popped up a picture of my most local one near Bletchley in the All Our Yesterdays thread...

Following on from the POTD image of the Concrete Reservoir this goes into a bit more detail. Probably about a couple of Latte's worth of browsing in the Snug!

When hydro-electric power was installed to drive the machinery of two mills on the banks of the River Tweed in Peeblesshire, an ingenious system was devised to store up power while the mills were not working.
